LOL Brad Ability to get militant users around the software he's selling (Lightwave, Modo) is a legendary super power just imagine that talent working for AutodeskMauricioPC wrote:I wonder the day Brad Peebler ask the Modo users to jump from a bridge ... if 10% won't do it.
with Brad as the face of autodesk, users will all truly believe ever release is GOLD & defend anything Autodesk does like he's Mel Gibson in Braveheart !!
WOW thinking about it,...
I do not disrespect Brad or what he does, I do honestly think he's the best at his job and there's nothing wrong with that in anyway, he's always a pretty straight guy and that's not what you normally get from people in his position.

Re: Carlyle Group plans to sell The Foundry
Someone mentionned Disney, which ya I guess it's an another possibility, but at 200M (in pounds -> being ~400M $)
going from a Huuge org (also heavily involved in things like heavy artillery among other things) which could only be going to some other huuge one (who is then going to get even huuger) which could come up with such (obscene) sums (enough to cover a small counties healthcare budget for a decade)... sometimes this hole industry makes me feel queasy.
But anyway, if inheritance would go to the one owning almost all the others, Brad might have a hard time countering possible lack of attention from the parent company, having it's website standardized, perhaps it's forum purged, later it's developers reassigned, while claiming that the future would be dandy. Hey whatever happened to Chinny?
Though perhaps unlike Chinny I don't know if he would have much trouble with assimilation, and just simply become yet another super-pro-Maya guy the moment the deal would be done, (remind you of a few?)
But who knows, if it is going to be a mega-monopoly, maybe some things have been learned with Softimage, and they just might give it the time of day, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up about positions of power not being being taken advantage of (if you're not happy, well...) being the hole point of going towards becoming the only one out there.

the fact softimage 2015 is still 10 times the 3D animation package modo 801 is ... makes me think it will be cut first meeting AD has about there newly acquired asset .FXDude wrote:But who knows, if it is going to be a mega-monopoly, maybe some things have been learned with Softimage, and they just might give it the time of day, but I wouldn't keep my hopes up about positions of power not being being taken advantage of (if you're not happy, well...) being the hole point of going towards becoming the only one out there.
AD statement:- if you want to model, you model in Maya light.
the Modo render and modeling tech will be transplanted to Nuke that process is already underway.

(
, or what . Don't want to 'defend' Modo or Brad here - but, if The Foundry is profitable, which seems to be, because of Nuke and probably something else - buyer could be anyone, including Adobe, Google, Roman Abramovich, Fishermen society, so on. While ago, Alias and Maya were owned by some pension fund or something like. Let's wait and see, first.
So where 'we' are in this story - on bottom of river, together with entire bridgeMauricioPC wrote:I wonder the day Brad Peebler ask the Modo users to jump from a bridge ... if 10% won't do it.

Yeah, I'm just impressed with his power. The news is important but after he speaked, most of the users got calm.
Truth is, this can be a good thing for TF, but it also may be a bad thing. You can spin the way you want, but only when the deal is done we are going to know.
But man, he's good.
Edit: for those who believe Brad, there's a good 40% off sale of Modo.

Re: Carlyle Group plans to sell The Foundry
The nature of the game the Carlyle Group plays will probably result in a transaction with an undisclosed sum of money at its core, but exactly that game, they apparently play so well, seems to ensure they will be able to rake in a hefty profit…

Stay safe, sane & healthy!

Gossip is what no one claims to like, but everybody enjoys.

Re: Carlyle Group plans to sell The Foundry
I guess the "why" is why would this mean a stop to the previously reported work of Dr. Pettersson for the Foundry...Bullit wrote:Why?
It's just normal 'stop' future development type of thing that occurs when a company decides they need to sell.
You don't spend money on R&D when you are unloading the work.

Re: Carlyle Group plans to sell The Foundry
The Foundry is not doing anything. Carlyle owns stocks in The Foundry and has announced that they hired another firm to find a buyer for their stocks. They own the majority of stocks while the Foundry's management owns a minority of it.
