What for you want populate Softimage if AD don`t want to develop it.

It has already been mentioned... As Softimage is a tool for 3d artists, new features should be illustrated with nice looking scenes, not VRML97 style scenes! When a 3d artist watch videos of Autodesk Softimage 2014 new features, he can just think : I prefer the crowd system of 3ds max (nice looking video, easy to tweak...), or Maya new modeling tools. Softimage video are maybe technically enough, but the audience is 3d artists!!!
The last time Softimage makes a nice impression to everyone was Lagoa video (or EMFluid). It was not just technical, but also nice to watch (thanks Arnold). I'm sure if HQV was illustrated with scene like this : http://vimeo.com/groups/ice/videos/60198312 , it would make a real difference to people minds?
You maybe think it's not relevant, but I'm sure that a nice scene is always better to illustrate a feature. I can not understand why a 3d artist will choose Softimage after watching the new features videos on the official website (or maybe if he was in the ISS for the last decade :p ).
Imagine that Capcom or any other studio working with Softimage offer some assets to illustrate new features (if there are any :ymblushing: ).
IMOHO, Softimage has 2 liabilities : almost no new features, bad illustrated. Nothing to be proud of.

I fear that we've reached a situation in which we have to accept that either we get features that artist-minded people use (like modeling, texturing, rendering improvements, etc.) and thus not being very attractive to outsiders => not many new comers OR deal with the fact that features for TD-minded people (CrowdFX, SDK development, etc.) will constitute the eye-candy that will keep XSI ship afloat and thus continue to working with the current aging but still great tools.
It would be great to not have to choose between the two, but...

Maybe someone here produced something impressive and great looking before
and i (or someone else) can then interview you on screencasting video and ask questions about the workflow, procedure of the scene etc?

I'm not 100% new with softimage, have done some scenes, but i'm new enough to be able to ask questions non-softimage users would ask i think.

if anybody is interested let me know : )

This looks like a great idea on paper, but in reality it's unfortunately not so simple. There's no shortage of people and studios using Softimage (or our other software for that matter), but it's not easy getting actual assets. We have tried many times, but often studio are unwilling, or unable to provide us with assets. And any that do can often restrict their usage.

Same situation also applies to doing things like screencasts, webinars and testimonials. We're always looking for ideas and opportunities, and in fact last year I had hoped to have more Softimage content in the Meet the Expert webinars we hosted in EMEA last year, but of all the possible ideas we had, none of them happened. There were a number of reasons, some of which I've mentioned, but often it was time. Sometimes people just weren't able to make the time available, which of course can be understandable.

Can you guys at AD sponsor some interns, and get few students to create some interesting stuff with SI, I think that SideFX is doing something like that?

They do indeed (many videos as well)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6abNKwOiJag
(example video)

And their own video channel: https://vimeo.com/goprocedural/videos
Channels and productions like that makes it much easier for people to get, and get into houdini.

I am looking forward to hearing/seeing some content about SI. I love content, be it tutorials, breakdowns, interviews, workflow articles, free stuff, scripts, plugins.

If all the vimeo content was on youtube, I think that would also help. I would totally subscribe, like and watch all vimeo content if it was in youtube. Youbtube streams so much easier and quicker than vimeo........

More youtube content would be great!!! Easier access to students, learners, or old timers.

Share secrets........

I find SI is very technically portrayed in the market, not hip and arty like maya or others, but just making it artistic and about content will make it much more popular, not just to studios, but wanna-be's and kids and students and future purchasers and artists.

This type of thing isn't down to me, more likely our Tech Marketing/Events people.

Nice suggestions here, how about also making real dynamic edits on real dynamic tunes, and post that?
