here's an alternative perspective... Lucas has sucked all the life blood out of Star Wars, maybe Disney doesn't care about it at all.
Maybe what Disney do care about is having SkyWalker sound and ILM. With all the vfx closures it's a good time for them to own their own. This way they can guarantee that all the Marvel stuff and Pirates etc has top class vfx now and for the foreseeable future. They control and ensure top quality work for their films, and can maybe write off the costs against tax, whilst profits from others vfx needs if those projects time frames dont overlap with their own needs - which will come first.
