try with this, oh btw those are for x64bit system, if you have 32 you need the 32 .dll
restart softimage after you copy the files

Yes, I'm on 64 bit. Thanks! I'll give that a try.

Hi!
I found this 3dsmax dll ( ) and you say that just the -cudart64_32_7.dll is there, but i found all the three of them in the Autodesk\Softimage 2012\Application\bin directory !
maybe they are the same and we can just put it in the /nt-x86-64/

Second thing:
Is there any documentation where i can find and understand the settings?
It seams to me, that it doesn't work with unified sampling, it all turns black!

the most common problem when a render turns black when using ctrl-ghost and those MR modes is because you have no lights in scene, check out you have at least 1 light, even if its turned off, MR needs to read at least 1 light in the whole scene, if you use for example just an HDRI with no lights it'll render black.

regarding the other dll i dont know, thats why i said to make a local copy, if you have them already try to activate iray if it doesnt work, swap with the max one, but always make backup before you do those operations.

progressive rendering is pretty straightforward, anyway here is the full mental ray doc with all you need:

I cannot make it work with unified sampling, the light, is there... but it renders to me, all black.

are you talking about iray render black ?

if so you have to know that the only two type of light supported are distant light and environement map.
Others light doesn't seam to work or being exported correctly to iray.

For the material I could get only simple lambert to work.
No reflection or refraction.

Well it s not trivial. :)

iRay works with many native mental ray nodes, it actually works with all lights inside soft, but the default intensity is not really suited for physical accuracy, so you need to rise up the value a lot to see them pop up.

also it needs some native MR nodes to read projections and texture.
here is a simple scene i've made.

For Iray? You have to use the mia_material. No problems here to get reflection working.

my bad then.

I have probably not increased the light intensity enough.
And thus nothing apear.

That's interesting thanks for posting all the info - wouldn't even have tried iray.

It looks like you don't even have to, at least here installing the ctrl_ghost geoshader was enough to get iray working.

So far, textures have not worked at all for me (results in an error and black render). Has anyone else had any luck?

There's also a lot of fireflies (bright white pixels) that don't seem to go away no matter how many samples I put.

are you using softimage's image node ?

Just a thought, did you try to use the native image shader of mental ray, mib_texture_lookup ?

Only the .mi based version of mia_material is supported (The one with the ugly UI)

Is there a way to make iray use both CUDA and the CPU?
It seems all CPU power is wasted when using CUDA and vice-versa.
