User .obj library

User OBJ LibraryAuthor: Reinhard Claus
A menu builder for a library of .obj files. As the first step, you'll have to create a folder named »ObjLib« under (UserFolder)/Data. When installed, creates a menu in Get>Primitive. Folder structure in the ObjLib will be recreated as the menu structure in Get->Primitive->User Object Library. Works for wavefront obj file format only — (Update) new version also scans all existing workgroups for Data/ObjLib submenus.

This addon is now integrated in the STL/OBJ Import/Export addon: AdditionalFileFormats.xsiaddon

I don't know why but after using this plugin with big meshes it crushes and breaks obj file. I don't know why. Probably because of big file size or multiple meshes per file

I just used the built in importer, maybe the file was locked after it failed to import.
I uploaded a new version that uses my own importer. Maybe it works better, it should at least be faster (also it selects the newly imported object)

Built in importer failed to import those obj files too. I just deleted materials and made meshes one object and it worked.

Updated script doesn't import obj files from old obj library folder

I merged my custom STL/OBJ importers and the ObjLib plugin. User needs to set the base directory (that's going to be menu-fied) in the "File Format Options" section in preferences. It also scans the old Data/ObjLib folders for backwards compatibilty. Hope it works this time :-ss
