I used Softimage everyday for the last 12 years.
Even when I wasn't working on a paid job I opened it and made a cube or a sphere or some particles system in ICE, just to let my hands go, without thinking.
It's a pleasure.
The smoothness, the flow of the interface.
Softimage let me think the way I wanted, made things the way I wanted, not the way the interface forced me.
Since I decided to work with visuals for my life I recognized Softimage the best way to work with.
I used for everything, from sketching and designing to render and finalizing.
It helped me to think.
It was my partner for 12 years and I'm still in love with it.
And I want to spend many years more together.

I don't want to be the marketing target of a slimy corporation anymore.
Let's get Softimage back.
Let's create a FOUDATION, like the blender foundation.
Creating sort of a fork of Softimage.
The third incarnation after Softimage|3D and Softimage |XSI.
A freed one.
Why don't we meet and talk about that?
We can use the Softimage Uber Tage, at least in Europe, to discuss the possibility.

I know its kind of a dream, and a hard one to realize.
But what the community showed with the vision and efforts in their works ( from the plugins to the pieces of art produced) is that talented people can achieve anything.
It requires a lot of time and money.
We have to put ours.
Hi Community

This is my first post here, although I am watching this site for quite long. Vektrex's idea is great IMHO. I can imagine something very similar:

It would be really great, to create user's donated foundation, which goal will be to create frontend layout, and user interface with all the sweet things we are in love so much (midlde mouse click to repeat, selecting, transforming, ppg's, etc...)
Foundation will be directly cooperating with Fabric Engine guys, to create this new layout and user interface around FE.
Result - Artist, and logic friendly interface, with beast engine inside.
I know. Long process.. But in my case, if something like this will be possible, I am instantly ready to put my money there (instead of putting it into another Autodesk crap).

yeah, a mistake for the boss.
one reason si was not widely used is that it was/is hard to find artists for it. you will find 10 max or maya users for 1 si user for example. if you want to run a business you have to care about such things.

its funny that now alot of people coming here only to complain about ad. where you were all the years as the dev of si was going down? thumb spinning? the behavior of alot of users is ridiculous. its to late now, you had to take the opportunity earlier to improve the situation. but as i wrote, its a good warning for other users to take the dev of their used software more serious and not only do some jokes when a new version is released without new features or bigger improvements.

I'm sorry, but that's bull****! What's happening now has been the plan ever since Autodesk bought Softimage, and there's not a damn thing we could have done about it! You only have to look at the way it's been sidelined in terms of marketing, trade show appearances and Master Classes to see what their intentions were! They didn't want to build the user base, they wanted to kill it. Job done!

Even their 'transition' deal is a kick in the balls, where if we take it, we have to give up our Softimage license! How many studios can afford to not have a legacy copy of older software around in case you have to revive an old project?

So basically, even if we do transition to Maya or Max, a lot of us will have to cancel our subscription to keep a copy of Softimage going and then buy a new copy of whatever we've replaced it with! That isn't a 'deal', it's a 'stitch-up' and, unfortunately, completely expected from this awful company!

how ad is handling things now is bad.
i wish they did it more user oriented, like giving a 2 years period to improve important things, integrate features in a correct/final way, talking with users which is important to go on.
how they handled it now looks like a short time decision, but its clear that they dont want the users using si in the near future. they want to get away with it as soon as possible. dont know why, i guess its to save money for support. otherwise you can running your sub for two more years so i expect more then simple bugfixing. the whole ending of si and how ad is handling this is strange. at the end, i think its because of maya and the newer dev for it.

AUDOTESK - The Murderer of Softwares. Those of you who have made this decision to discontinue XSI, you have booked yourself a special seat in hell. Bon voyage Burn in Hell :ymdevil:

Meanwhile let us sign the petition, and see what it does.

I'm still puzzled about whats gonna happen, if for example last update i got on subscription was Softimage 2013, and i didnt renew my sub, will i be able to use Soft2013 forever? Or the license will eventually expire some day?
