A matter of organization help required :)

Post by nuverian » 21 Feb 2013, 07:32

Ok. So here is the thing, or at least how I imagine I want it irelevant of if its even possible.

I have a scene of the "game" character that I am working on. Now this scene has come to has a great number of different animation and more will be added as well and a prety big timeline that I get kind of lost in there. What I would optimaly like to have is a scene of my character only (no animation, just rig, envelope) and different scenes for his animations (maybe in groups like a scene for movement aninmations and another for emotion animations). So in essense I want some kind of reference to the same model and not just dublicate scenes.

I hope you understand what I speak of :-)

Any thought on how to organize this stuff?

You don't necessarily have to split things up into lots of different scenes. If I have understood you correctly I think what might help you is to use Action Clips in the Animation Mixer.

What you're describing sounds like a referenced model workflow. Easily done, lots about it in the manual.

I really want to split into different scenes, since there are quite some animations that for example are synced with another 'object' animation (eg bicycle). Now the bicycle is of course not part of the character model and has animation itself + the char feet are temporary constrained to the pedal. (game character, we dont have IK in game :/ :-P )
So i think that actions will not really help me here due to that out-character model contrains and syncing.

On the other hand, yes, referencing is what looks like I want, but last time I checked how-to, I found myself lost in the delta stuff and almost loose some work due to "I have no idea what I am doing" :-)
I will check again and see if im able to pull this off this time.

Thanks

A worthwhile read:

On the whole I'm finding them relatively stable these days, once you get to know the delta a bit.
