"Adobe eyes £200m bid for The Foundry"
Hi there!
Seems, that Adobe is interested in buying the Foundry. Interesting read (though the editor seems not to know what he is talking about ;) ):

Re: "Adobe eyes £200m bid for The Foundry"
If true, this hardly comes as a surprise, Autodesk and Adobe pretty much seem to be the only two players, that are not investment companies, that could potentially fork up the necessary amount of cash. But then again: the Telegraph article seems rather poorly researched (look at the way they introduce modo for instance), and "eyeing" is still a far cry from actually bidding. I would consider this a warning shot. Let full bidding mayhem ensue...
;)

Moderator edit: merged two very similar threads starting from here - HB
In an article at CGPRESS there is a rumor that ADOBE is looking to buy FOUNDRY for £200m. ....... "http://cgpress.org/archives/adobe-to-pu ... undry.html"
Ok, what if we make a kickstarter project to rise £200m ?
for example - 20 000 000 / 1000 (the price of just MODO) = 20 000 people
and make it all The FOUNDRY belongs to the community of people who deserve to own it.
After that WE can guide the road-maps for the software to evolve and WE can make the prices to cover all expenses of development and cut out the greedy profits of the investors.
Simply: "software for Us, driven by Us, priced for Us and inspired by Us" .
It is like making it in-between Open Source and Commercial ... actually "Community Source" ! ;)

I couldn't resist to quote the second comment below the original article:
"Juang3D:
Why don’t Adobe rent The Foundry instead of acquiring it? Isn’t that such a good business model? Or is just a good model to drain money from customers even when there is practically no evolution in the software?"

My tip: ignore people that doubt this article because some of the details of the products are wrong. Nobody cares about these except fanboys, it's just padding for the article. Some people on other other forum are looking for a quote or second source for confirmation, as though this was a car accident or something and reporters are buzzing around with their fedora and cameras. It's not investigative reporting, it's a strategic leak from the seller to fish for more buyers.

Now ... I wouldn't mind having Nuke on the CC. That might be just a reason to actually sign the damn thing. Problem is, most customers are not happy with the rate of development of Adobe after the CC thing.
Can't Autodesk sell Softimage to Adobe as well?

Re: "Adobe eyes £200m bid for The Foundry"
A respected news paper like the Telegraph could however have tried to get the little facts they had in that item straight.
Fact checking might not mean much in this "industry" and in the machinations of "big money",
it should however matter to any serious news outlet...

Re: "Adobe eyes £200m bid for The Foundry"
when you read the article they link to for Modo, you understand that the modo comment is not wrong. Collis is specifically quoted as saying that Modo is their entry in the 3d concept design world. 2d vs 3d is weird but it's how Autodesk and dassualt talks about all the time to the investors. Most things are still designed in 2D and the move to 3D is where investors think all the money is.

Re: "Adobe eyes £200m bid for The Foundry"
Also TF does a lot of work creating spins (ie Nexus core compiled to do specific things) that plugin into design programs. DS Solidworks for example. So while that comment does tend to sideline Modo a bit, its not exactly inaccurate. Modo is just a standalone Spin.

Another interesting point is the lack of Brad Peebler appearance on the forums. Generally, when a rumor brake out, he's almost instantaneous show up do the PR fix.

Re: "Adobe eyes £200m bid for The Foundry"
So he did comment, but on another thread!
http://community.thefoundry.co.uk/discu ... 7&p=922795As for the adobe discussion, as we've mentioned before we are not in a place to comment publicly about the carlyle investment other than to continue to point out that Bill, Simon, CK, Jody, Andy W, Jon W, Mark B and myself are still very much in charge of the company and still very passionate about the products and people that got us to where we are today. Haters gonna hate and crappy journalist will continue to be crappy journalists.
Re: "Adobe eyes £200m bid for The Foundry"
They already integrated some things from XSI into maya with this new version (see the new hypershade), so I dont think they can sell it even if Scrooge McDuck offers them to buy Softimage.MauricioPC wrote: Can't Autodesk sell Softimage to Adobe as well?

So no evil corp (it seems). Perfect timing with the 901 launch.

Interesting news and undoubtably better for the Foundry development-wise,MauricioPC wrote:So no evil corp (it seems).
but aren't private equity firms generally perceived as the "root of all evil"?

In the next days we'll see what the Modo users can dig up about this new parent company! Let them do the job.Hirazi Blue wrote:but aren't private equity firms generally perceived as the "root of all evil"?
