I hope I can convert my node locked license to a network license so I can have the server on a VM. I think that would be the least they should do.

Can you explain how you would do that, RRay? Server on VM?

The license server software can run on a different machine than the programs that ask it for licenses. It could be running in a VM also. The VM machine would have its own operating system and only the license server software installed.

But I'm not sure, some license servers refuse to work when they detect they're running in a VM.

The license server software can run on a different machine than[...]
- does that mean it can also run on the same machine? So, have the license manager run on the same machine you have Soft running on? I've always assumed one should have it running on a network server (hence network license). I have mine on one, but just for my AD license, and I'd rather ditch it if I don't need it.

Yes, it can also run on the same machine! I have it running that way for years now...

I’m no lawyer but wonder if this is legal, at least it should be challenged. Seems like AD has their own definition of "perpetual".

In the last release announcement From 2014 it says: "Customers will still be able to transfer their existing licenses to new computers, if required, after April 30, 2016."

Would be silly if I can no longer access old projects from clients in a few years because my workstation broke down.
