How to fix imported .bhv files?

Post by ronaldomiranda » 22 Jul 2014, 22:00

Hi Guys.

I am not good at animation at all. At least now.
I found this good source full of free .bvh files:

https://sites.google.com/a/cgspeed.com/ ... conversion

I imported them just as .bvh files in xsi and it works fine.
But i am try to tag and retarge to the XSIman, using motor.
I got a very distorted motion:
the hands are totally crazy (and even if i try to use the adjust parameters, its too much weirdeness going on...)

I tried to tag in a lot of ways, but seens i am NOT going to make it work fine by myself.

Is there any special trick for fix this?

Would be more easy rig the character exactly with the same bone struture and so tranfer the .bvh?

i want to use as much as i can from this .bvh files...

thanx for any help or info ;)

Could you perhaps upload your finished/broken scene somewhere, so we can take a closer look at it?
No guarantees, obviously, but still...
;)

PS and edit: if you know what part of the bvh troubles you, you could try to use bvhacker to do some manual readjustments. But the problem most probably lies on the Softimage-side of things, not the bvh-side, I'm guessing.

PS. By the way you are alright, because when i just import the .bhv bone structure, i can see the animation clearly.
the chalenge for me, will be learn how to target it properly
Even if a need to make some layer offset i dont care, cause i know will not be always perfect.
And sorry, english is not my native language :(

There is absolutely NO reason to apologize for your English. As long as we understand it, it's good enough. If we don't understand it, we should simply ask for an explanation... Most of us aren't native speakers.
:ymhug:

2013 scene would work...

Hi man, sorry for the long delay. Have been busy the last days.

I just realised part of the error:

When i tried to tag the .bvh file, for a reason i dont know why XSI messed up with the symmetry.
For example, when i clicked on the right forearm, i got the left foot and not the left forearm...thats why i got all messed up.
I fugured out this today.

Now seens good. Maybe the best i can get with these free motions lol.

I put the scene online now.
The file contain the xsiman with the .bvh applied, and the .bvh imported as well.

Seens now the match very good.

There is a lot of shaking, but it has on the original .bvh as you will see.

So what could i do for fix this shaking?

I was thinking on plot and after that smooth and fix the curve animations....is there other way?

thanx man for your time and help! :)

Sorry, the file hoster gives me a "captcha expired" error and immediately wants me to wait for a full hour. Will have to try later...
Not an expert either, but I think the main way to clean your bvh imported function curves is this: Cleaning Up Mocap Data (High-density Fcurves)

PS - More than an hour later the file hoster still doesn't let me access the file, telling me I have to wait yet another 2 hours.
This is somewhat ridiculous, to say the least.

You needn't bother with a new file hoster anymore,
I tried downloading it again yesterday evening and strangely enough I succeeded in getting it.
Having looked at it briefly, it looks as if the animation comes across nicely, apart from the right arm, which seems strangely off and disappears in the body. But from the perspective of jitter, the result would seem rather clean, even though the fcurves of the mocap data obviously are a mess (as is to be expected with mocap data). I would leave that as is, while trying to figure out how to correct the right arm. I haven't had time to look into that, but time permitting, I will try to have a look at that later today as well...
;)

Could you perhaps send the original bvh as well? That is something you should be able to attach to your post directly (after zipping it, I must add)...

Oh man, sorry for the long delay, i have been busy here lately and didnt come to the forum any more.

I tried to find each file i used but i cant.

But the file its on the scene it self, its the bone animation. I applied the file to the xsi man and imported the mocap file as well for compare every move.

I really noticed that the shaking its presented in the original mocap, so its no more my errors or xsi lol.
(maybe thats the price for free mocap?)

thanks anyway for every help.
i will get again to my animation studies very soon and hope i can get help :D
