Multi Importer (for objects and models)
I just got done writing a small tool for Softimage 2011 that lets me load multiple model files at once. Figured I'd share it in case someone else can benefit from it.
Here's the download page.
Once installed, go to File -> Import -> Multi Importer. Then pick a directory containing any combination of EMDL, FBX, OBJ, or LWO files. A listbox will appear to let you choose which files you want to import. You can select multiple files, and across file types too.
This was originally designed to let me bring in many OBJs at once, so the FBX and LWO options are there just for the heck of it, and limited to scale-related settings. Might enhance that later.
Always open to feedback and suggestions! I figure these file types cover the bases, although I'll probably add dotXSI in there soon.

Sorry, I haven't tested this with 2012 yet. Just 2011. I should probably add that disclaimer on the download page.
When I get a chance, I'll try and get this working with 2012.

spurv, try executing this python code:
Code: Select all
Application.SelectObj("Scene_Root", "", "")
Application.SIAddProp("Multi_Importer", "", "siDefaultPropagation", "", "")
Btw, Tim, are there any chances you could add a possibility to see this files while browsing for a folder? I know people will automatically try to select the files instead of a folder, but often you will not be entirely sure where your files are and if you cant see them, its hard to tell...
Also, many thanks for coding this very useful plugin and sharing.

Re: Multi Importer (for objects and models)
I can take a look and see if that's possible. I have my doubts though: Softimage is pretty limited in how it interacts with directories and browsers and such. Unless the SDK for 2012 got some changes...
Re: Multi Importer (for objects and models)
very nice tool, but I get errors on 2012 SP1.
It installs just fine, and the two lines of code will get you a property node.
I browse to the folder, and it will show the files in there.
I select all, and it throws the following error:
cheers though for the addon, very handy indeed

I guess it means it will not load older versions of LWO's?// INFO : POXSI_LWOImport. Error, bad header, not LWO2

Re: Multi Importer (for objects and models)
Thanks Rork.
Again, I haven't tested this with 2012, since we're still on 2011 here. So it's good to know this errors exists. Indeed...maybe the LWO importer changed? I'll have to get into 2012 and check it out, if I can get it installed here at work.

Crap, the link is dead.
The homepage and website is down, you can still find it on the Rray database, but not at it's site..

Re: Multi Importer (for objects and models)
Sorry about that! I changed hosts recently and also decided to change domains, and it got messy. I've fixed the link at the top, but please note that it's for the Qt version. I'll restore the legacy PPG version if it's needed.
