an apparently easy task - particles not overlapping

Post by Maximus » 10 Oct 2018, 11:59

Hey guys, im trying to reproduce this kind of look

but no matter what i do, i always end up with particles overlapping each other, or intersecting, never have this clean look of boundaries that dont intersect each other.

anyone have any idea how to achieve this on a basic ice setup?

any help would be much appreciated, thanks :)

What might work: put a new point in a "random" location, get closest points within a radius and then build an array of "distance to point-radius of point", and then use the minimum of that array for the new point's radius

You could try some kind of rigid body simulation to attract them together while respecting collisions?

i am trying with the darth throw v3 from Julian, its the only one that gives me decent results altho not quit what i want.
I am thinking to try momentum but im not that great at using it, nver done :)

RRay, what you wrote is greek for me :D
im not that good at ice either :)

Have you try emNewton2 plugin from Mootzoid?

http://www.mootzoid.com/plugin/emnewton2
$ifndef "Softimage"
set "Softimage" "true"
$endif

A demo scene that came with XSI (ICE/Particle_Force_Coagulate.scn) comes quite close too. I just changed the emitter to a cylinder here...

(open scn, hit play and slowly increase the cutoff distance in the "coagulate force" compound white playing)

Hey great. I had a try with the first approach too. You can move the null to control where points are emitted so you can sort of write.
