Unroll a huge billboard (20 m)

Post by Robert_XSI » 02 Nov 2012, 12:48

Hi Softimage users!

I have a tyring task of unrolling a huge 20 m high billboard, and must have wind and all nice details on it. Unfortunately syflex just does not work for this complex collision task, and selfcollision is unusable I think for this, perhaps.

So I am collecting ideas for solving this nice task. The unrolled billboard radius is quite small, 10 to 20 cm maybe, that makes this task another challenge.

Any ideas, please.

THX
Robert

Which way are you unrolling it? Pinning the top edge and 'dropping' the roll is much more dependent on pure simulation than unrolling the billboard from the top!

If you are unrolling from the top, try using the Syflex Mimic Null ICE compound.

Just ran a quick test (I love how quick it is to do 'proof of concept' stuff in SI :D ) and whilst it needs refinement I think it will work fine for a certain type of unfurl!

No problem!

Let me know if you need any more info regarding setup or ICE trees :)
