XBox Kinect mocap and 3D scanning

http://www.brekel.com/

I think we should ask this guy to commercialise his software. A lot of indies are waiting
for this kind of software.

I find it very amusing how all sorts of interesting tech is being "hacked" together with the Kinect hardware,
while Microsoft, from what I hear/read, hasn't seemed to be able to create one decent game with it so far
(and that was its admitted purpose AFAIK)

My brother bought a X360 w/ Kinect for Christmas. I enjoyed playing the Kinect Sports Volleyball and Boxing games! Really cool tech! I heard that they lowered the resolution of the cameras to decrease lag. Once they can increase the resolution, it will be able to detect fingers!

Very interesting. I am going to try it. Asked my girlfriend to bring my kinect to the studio.

Brekel point cloud is out for sale now. I saw this video showing how to do animation with Brekel pointcloud in Maya.

Does it make sense to use it as a reference for doing character animation in Softimage. I've bought the light version of Ipisoft and to be honest I was a little disappointed with the processing time it took to analyse the animation. The output was not what I wanted. By the time you've setup mocap in Softimage a decent character animator with a decent rig can produce a much better quality character animation. This seems to me a better option for character animators.

Comments?

P.S: I hope I have posted this in the right topic

We will be looking at Mocap wth kinect is some detail this year. We are looking at setting up a 2-3 camera setup for our students. Our main issue will be finding the space to do it ;) We are looking at rough march / april this year to get it off the ground. I will report back here as to our progress,

Child of eden is a very cool game for kinect and i've been doing my exercises (stuff like cardio boxing and even thai chi) with it (yourshape fitness) nearly every day for over a year now. I would also get Star Wars for kinect if i could get the english version as the dutch dub sucks, but the demo worked well!

So i think it's doing it's job ;)

Well, in my defense:
Child of Eden and Star Wars Kinect were both released AFTER I wrote the post you quoted (which was two years ago). :D
