to kill this one with hopefully one reply...

Any news? There's lots of stuff being rendered with Arnold, there on the net to be found.

price? email the chaps at Solidangle if you're really interested.

availability? you can get it now, but email the chaps at Solidangle if you're really interested.

Maybe something for Christmas ? Depends.... If you want to pay for your present, then yes... ;)

If things only were that simple...
As far as I know Arnold is still in beta-testing, but last thing I heard they closed the beta testing for individuals and only accepted studios for the beta list.

But maybe it's released already & they're just keeping it a secret... :D

Can "you can get it now" ? ;-)
The rest of the sentence suggests this is a typo, and you intended to type "you can't get it now"

<sigh>.... ;)

First of all, Arnold itself is not a beta product and is being actively developed and used as the internal renderer of choice at Sony. (e.g. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs)

A lot of post production and film related companies are already actively testing or using Arnold for their productions. (e.g. Glassworks, WhiskeyTree, CafeFX)
So if you're really interested, email the chaps at Solidangle to see if you can:
- get into the program of testing and optimizing the Softimage bridge to Arnold.
- buy some licenses and start using it now for your productions.

But for now it's targeted to the 'bigger' companies, or people who can/want to purchase a certain amount of licenses.
So email the chaps at Solidangle for more information if you're really interested in purchasing.

The current Arnold 'community' is very much pushing this thing forward, and Arnold itself is developed at a very quick pace. Support is great and response is quick to questions and issues, not just by the people at Solidangle but also by the users them selfs.

Other than, all else is under NDA......... :ymblushing:

great examples, the ME3 trailer by the very talented people of Digic Pictures:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNLjwYaXHLE

or some of the Asgard shots (0:45) in the new Thor trailer done by WhiskeyTree:

enjoy!! :-)

Just teasing: so it's a finished product, not a beta, they're selling (bulk) licenses already
and still you're bound by your NDA? :ymhug:

Why do your comments always feel 'off'? Can't put my finger on it.... /:)
Or I'm not getting the joke....

So....

I'm giving you no more, or no less information that is already to be found on the web. Nothing to do with NDA's.

All the relevant information about commercials, movies etc. is to be found on forums, mailinglists, multiple VFX related sites, the interview with Marcos about Arnold and alike.
Interview can be found here: http://tog.acm.org/resources/RTNews/htm ... .html#art3
Arnold is a product that has been around since Daniel Martinez aka "Pepeland" did his famous renders for over ten years ago, and has been around in several incarnations and 3D render solutions since then. So that would count for not being a beta?

The Softimage 'bridge' is a work in progress, but that's no secret either as Borja and Marcos demonstrated this recently on the videos posted at Vimeo from the German VFX convention.
Link to the thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1016
One could deduct from all this information that there are sales, otherwise all those renders couldn't be made. And no one is betting on beta software to finish rendering movie frames for... say... "Alice in Wonderland".....

So again, it's out there, people are using it outside Sony, and if you want to use it too contact the people at Solidangle for more info.

me signing off now..

Well, I didn't want to annoy you, like I stated, I was just teasing... You're right the whole Arnold business has been talked about in all the different forums and threads for quite some time now, but it's not something that should be considered so blatantly common knowledge, that you just feel free to "kill" threads about it or give the impression the person asking the question should have known better. (That kind of RTFM thinking is never a good approach IMHO).
But if you really think my "comments always feel 'off'",
that almost feels like an insult. Can't put my finger on it either though... =((

Fair enough.... Let's hug and make up :ymhug:

My first reply could have been made into something more informative, more like my second post. I give you that.. ;)

Maybe this thread could become the "Arnold" information page, with all stuff related to Arnold posted in here.

I'll add some links to the various commercials and such and add some info.

friends??? :ympeace:

Recent Psyop commercial containing some shot done with Arnold, mostly close up and inside carpet thread shots:

older one from the boys at Digic Pictures:

Done almost completely with Arnold, some stuff was done with FumeFX if I recall correctly.

Interview with Rob Bredow and some info on "Cloudy" and Arnold, and additional links to several other movies that used Arnold for rendering:

For the people who missed this one..

Some stunning work from Thomas Mansencal aka Kel Solaar with a excellent walkthrough how he did it can be found here:

Multiple 3D apps to create the geometry and scenes, but Arnold was used for rendering.

One question concerning Arnold of the hopefully non-NDA variety:
Arnold is a production proven renderer and is in use at Sony. Meanwhile SolidAngle develops Arnold into a commercial product. Are these two separate "forks" (to use a term from software development/the "open source" community) of development? In other words: is there a Sony-branch and a SolidAngle-branch or are they one and the same?

edit - come to think of it: might not be a non-NDA kinda question after all... :ymblushing:
