HairDew
V1.0 released Feb 20th 2019 — From the si-community thread:
HairDew provides a very quick & easy workflow for animating long (or short) hair,
from start to finish. It includesa Hair shader compound (Redshift) with volume scattering, illumination parameter isolation,
and textured variation visualization,
ICE nodes for both Sim & Styling based on Kinstinka, Melena, GroomTools, (+ some of
my own nodes) and StrandCollisionFramework
means to easily setup everything,
many (old and recently added) features! There is also a more or less similar MentalRay
shader compound that could be re-emplemented with a bit of work. (currenly not included)
HairDew is a workflow-in-a-box like solution rather than a plugin, so make sure to visit the thread below and follow the video tutorial to get an overview.

Other than the hair shader, the character's material has a "Redshift Material" general purpose shader encapsulated in compound
- For more organized exposed ports on node
- and for easy adding / editing parameters or layout
- shader compound adds "Diffuse Fresnel"
- a split-off of transparency / transmittance parameters from main first tab, into a new tab
- & more pleasant OGL display using Diffuse color as ambient
(for display only, globally adjustable with the global ambient setting)

I don't know how many are setup to use it (you can dowload the Redshift demo if you'd like to try) ,
nevertheless, I would be delighted to see results, tests, or especially descriptions of first experiences ( you can PM me or post here ! )
And... have a nice hair day !

Re: SoftimageGarage|HairDew1.0
Great! Thanks a lot!
But please release the Mental Ray compound as well.
I let my Redshift-license expire so now all I have is "good old" Mental Ray...

Hi,
okay for the MR shader, yet I'll simply post an earlyer scene (which didn't have helper scripts or other things..)
but from which you should be able to export the shader as a compound, or make a model with the Styling pointcloud (with the shader) along with the lights,
and import the model in the new posted scene above, switch it to MR, and replace the RS shader with the MR one. (copy paste)

Also again, if you downloaded the posted scene earlyer, you may want to do it again, I left the display transparency muted, and other stuff lol (ignore if your scene looks fine)
later!

it should work with anything that can render strands, therefore pretty-much any renderer that works in XSI
Re: SoftimageGarage|HairDew1.0
Hi, did you mean getting the strands to render in sycles? if so, I suppose the cycles hair shader should work (?)wireframex wrote: ↑17 Feb 2019, 22:05 Thanks a lot man !

Otherwise just to clarify, I was of course not inferring that the supplied shader would work in cycles

Very nice.. this fills a big gap! Not so many solutions for simulating long hair available, maybe just two? Can only come up with Ornatrix and *shudder* nHair at the moment, any more out there?
This seems to keep up well with the feature sets they have... going to have a dive in a bit soon...

Re: SoftimageGarage|HairDew1.0
Thanks and no prob!
Also note that my RS ver installed is 2.5.60, Mar 6 2018
I'm mentionning that because some earlyer versions couln't handle scattering.
Cheers!
