Hmm... Should I take the bait and ask what's wrong with the Polygonizer? :-?

I never got around trying it. It looked very interesting at the time. The inclusion of emPolygonizer in Softimage, however solved all my immediate & admittedly little needs with respect to metaballs. So I cannot really compare it, but it would seem, judging from the threesixty website that this plugin hasn't had an update since Softimage 2010 and that could prove to be a problem. Not necessarily, but it would be something to watch out for...
Maybe the most recent version of emPolygonizer, that offers more than the older version included in Softimage, might be worth considering.
:-?

Havent tried this version bit previous versions were very good. all of his stuff was well designed and reliable. shame if he's not developing any longer, shatter saved my ass on quite a few occasions!

But yeah, these days i'd go with polygonizer...

The mesh in the previews seem so stable... I think I'll try the demo.

And I was trying emPoly3 and the one who comes with Soft too, for simple metaballs and I noticed that it creates a thickness on the spheres, and I could't get arround that, I want to create some metaball bubbles with no thickeness, that's why I started to look arround for another solution.

But firstly I'd send the author a mail to check if he's actually still selling the product.
Sometimes websites tend to live longer than the businesses they represent...

Ok I tried the demo version, and this is exactly what I was looking for, a real metaballs system, different from polygonizer. With this you cant polygonize lots of geometry or particles because it gets very slow, but its perfect for other kind of effects. I did a simple video, as you can see I'm still a bit lost :)

You can use nulls as metaspheres with polygonizer to avoid "thickness". Polygonizer is pointbased.

Yes, I know that now, I didn't when I made the video, but when I do that the mesh gets bigger than the null, I know we can try to fix that with smooth or other parameters but its a bit annoying, and then if you want to animate the Y scale for example to make a squash effect you cant...
