Autodesk® Softimage® 2013 animation software delivers powerful new creative toolsets, a new high-fidelity interactive environment, and extended customizability, helping artists and Technical Directors get more from the product. Artists will enjoy greater creative freedom across the board: from the completely new CrowdFX simmulation feature set; to a new High-Quality viewport; to enhanced modeling, 3D animation, physics, and selection tools, Softimage 2013 helps artists create compelling content in less time. In addition, better interoperability with Autodesk® Maya® 2013 software and Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2013 software; and extensions to the SDK (software development kit) help facilitate integration into existing pipelines.

Damn, that sounds nice! Got my attention, certainly. :)

Will hold back on softimage, but as far as max goes...

especially this: "...offers a new render pass system with integrated node-based composting..." doesnt seem to be Composite, maybe something new. Motion graphics tools too?

...careful with interpreting this marketing massages. Might be a full blown internal compositor, but more likely, its like maya's pass composting feature.

Also interesting, and only because we love to make up theories :

Scared that the max users will switch If they spend to much time in SI ? :D (just kidding)

I'll bite. If overall improvements are satisfyingly good, i wont be too sad about SI giving a priority to max/maya interop (thats to be expected, after all), but mudbox/motionbuilder would be more useful to those of us hopping to stay away from maya/max pipelines. Oh well... mumble, grumble, mumble, grumble ;)

They just showed Maya on iPad. I think they are bringing mobile options to the flagship DCC apps.

Oh my, that's terrible. Softimage, if they show it at all, will be 5 minutes somewhere in the last quarter.
