I know about setting up a rendering a lot faster than you could in MR and this is indeed a thing that you can't take lightly, but strictly on the rendering speed I'm not sure v-ray is faster. I mean I don't say it isn't but I'm just not convinced or at least not yet. I'm sure that tests and benchmarks will appear soon so I'll have to suspend my judgement until then.
The simple and elegant workflow that the materials are based on, that I like.

I tested V-ray when the beta just started and was already impressed with ease and speed.
Looking at the videos, it has become a welcome replacement for Mental Ray.

And to all the "Arnold the urban myth" quotes...
Arnold is out there, and being used a lot. The fact that you cannot buy a single license as a freelancer or one-man band doesn't say it's vaporware.
If you're a studio, and are interested, an email is all it takes.

and now back to discussing V-ray :ymhug:

$1300 bucks is way out of my price range as a hobbyist.

But, I'm glad Vray is available for SI.

You can download demo and try it for yourself. It has limitation to 5 lights only, small watermark and 640x480 max render resolution (but you can draw as big render region as you like, strange)

Great news indeed. I see it evolved from the beta quite a bit. I really like the fur support and the pdplayer integration. Even if minor seems quite handy.
