EPS from Inkscape to Softimage?
I have been trying to get a vector drawing of some curves from the Open Source vector software Inkscape into Softimage, but I couldn't get it to work. Now I'm guessing (hoping/wishing), as an Inkscape noob, it has to do with the export settings in Inkscape. So here's my question: does anyone of you know of the "magic settings" that could help me get an EPS file from Inkscape to Softimage or if not, does anyone know of a vector drawing software of the "open source" or "freeware" variety that does create files Softimage can accept more easily?
Thanks in advance, obviously... ;)
PS - I placed this under "General" for lack of an obvious other forum to place it...

Unfortunately Softimage supports only older versions of the EPS format.

And for you, the local link:

Can you export as version 8 from Inkscape? Or maybe open in Illustrator and save as an older version? Also, make sure there are only curves and no TIFF preview.

Re: EPS from Inkscape to Softimage?
Thanks,
I found that page already & was afraid of that, as Inkscape doesn't seem to give me the option to save to the mentioned older format, as far as I can tell. The Inkscape export settings don't mention the TIFF preview header either.
Sadly, I don't have a way to open it in any other program yet, as I am in an experimental phase and haven't been able to decide yet if what I was trying to do, warrants the purchase of software. So if anyone knows of any Open Source/Freeware solution that does save out in the correct format for now, I could decide at a later date, if its worth the effort/money to buy myself something commercial...

I seem to recollect an earlier version had an older format for .ai export .
But failing that blender imports .svg ,I suppose you could use that to export something out that will import into soft.

Thanks for the suggestion. Note to self: Must look into Blender again... ;)

Re: EPS from Inkscape to Softimage?
sometimes in the past the .ai import fails because the paths are not 'flattened' whatever that means , generally forcing the original illustrator file to ungroup repeatedly kind of turns the drawing into mere points rather than groups of shapes. this may be your issue rather than a format conversion. also, as far as I can remember, it was definitely an .ai file that imported not an .eps as .eps is many different types and can simply be a bitmap whereas .ai is the points you are after. and finally , don't be outdone by Blender in this issue, I'm fairly certain that some kind soul (miga) has made a .SVG importer for xsi

That was a cool plugin, no doubt. But IIRC it was never even compiled for x64... ;)

I'm surprised no one has come up with an ice system for curve/strand booleans yet..its something sorely missing from soft.

Thanks ace.
Sadly after an hour or so trying different versions of inks cape with different export settings I couldnt get anything into xsi 7. The plugin loads but no cigar .
