Animate Poly hair
Hello all
Il would need a suggestion
What do you think would be the best
way to animate polygon hair
Knowing that:
-the character will rig with the biped from XSI
-the head will animate with pointCache http://xsisupport.wordpress.com/2009/10 ... th-bodies/
- I do not know well Ice (never use ;) )
Thank you in advance

Re: Animate Poly hair
What do you mean by poly hair? Do you mean the standard Softimage hair? If so, it seems to depend on the question if the hair you want to animate is long or short. Realistically animating long hair in Softimage seems to be problematic, as far as I can tell from reading numerous hair related threads.

Re: Animate Poly hair
Sorry, but that's not shape animation...
Seems you posted your reply to Cryid on the Area here as well.
Which isn't a bad thing, it just isn't a response to my last suggestion...

Re: Animate Poly hair
hi Hirazi Blue
pooby on Xsibase give me those tips I will see
If you want some simulated movement, Mindthink Spring would be a good option, or the Sixbirds rigging solvers.
You could also use Syflex on a proxy mesh and cage deform to it.
but I do not find these plug

Re: Animate Poly hair
Yes, that's because MindThink doesn't exist anymore,
but you can still get the MT_Spring from the "local backup" at rray.de
and the Sixbirds Rigging Solvers are now called studioNEST Briqks
;)

Re: Animate Poly hair
ok
MT Spring it`s the solution
it does what I need
which leads to a second question?
MT Spring it formed with Null how to prevent them to pass through the mesh?
Thank Hirazi Blue for your help
MT Spring ;)

Re: Animate Poly hair
Sadly, I myself have zero experience with MT_Spring, so I can't really help you there, but the original video that accompanied this tool can be found here (Youtube), maybe that helps (a little)...
edit: here's a (probably silly) thought though: couldn't you just shrinkwrap the resulting hair to the head (in the "animation" or "simulation" region? - just guessing here) with an amplitude less than 1, resulting a shrinkwrap near the head, but not actually on the head itself?
edit2: I am going to sit behind my Softimage workstation (I am not behind it right now) and try to figure something out, as I somehow doubt, my first edit even works...

Not with MT spring anymore. You can use ShrinkWrap for that (with default, 'Toward Inner Object', or 'Follow Vertex Normals' option, both with 'Reverse' on). For anything more complex, you can try some kind of cloth simulation.
cheers

Re: Animate Poly hair
Perhaps set up a volume constraint roughly the size of the head?MT Spring it formed with Null how to prevent them to pass through the mesh?
