Loading .wav Audio, Error
Loading .wav Audio, Error
Hi,
I was trying to load a .wav to an audio track in the Animation Mixer, but receiving error:
Do I need to create a certain type of .wav ? Or should it work when I can play the same file in any media player on the same pc ?
Regards,
Frank

Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
Um... just make sure the *.wav files in your sources of the scene\model are in consistent frequencies (44100khtz or 35000khtz, 48000khtz, etc) within your scene. I had problems with that, but it usually tells you about this incompatibility.
Also, check to see if your file is not corrupt. This also happened to me, but then resaving\exporting that file from the audio program fixed this. I had that problem also, and I think the error was exactly the same as your screenshot.

Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
Most likely: your wav I'm willing to bet is either at 96kHz/non-standard sample rate or using compression other than PCM.
Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
thx for your input Draise,
i went and tried out :
a) a Quicktime .mov that playes ok in Media Player ....
b) created a new .wav in Cubase, so to have control about the settings (funny enough, it wouldn’t play in Media Player or VLC)
... but both didn’t load into SI
then I tried
c) converted an .mp3 to .wav
* worked
d) convert not-working.wav from first try to .mp3 and back to .wav
* worked too
while method c) did load but didn’t play any sound, until I added method d) to the same mixer, then both audio tracks played the sound
.wav seems to be more complex than one could wish. I used http://media.io to convert.

Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
Use Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ for quick conversion, works better.
Mind posting the actual file that you have trouble with? I'll see if I can get the same problem.

Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
ya here is a mini snippet from the same make that's same way not loading .wav (Adobe Premiere audio recording)
Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
xsi should be able to use a .mov directy as an audio file. try it.
Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
Sorry, went out before I saw your reply, heh.
Your wav is at 32-bit for bit depth. XSI supports up to 24-bit afaik (and really, 16-bit for playback is fine, most sound cards don't actually support full undithered 24-bit playback in any case)
http://www.tempfiles.net/download/201303/292793/Audio-3_1771.html
Resaved it for you at 16-bit 48kHz.
(For the record, this affects almost any DCC app, including Maya/max/XSI/after effects/premiere/etc. Long story short: unless you're working with a DAW app, don't go over 16-bit/48kHz for playback. It's pointless and just eats up CPU cycles.)

Re: Loading .wav Audio, Error
thanks Sonictk for the functioning specs . In SI i use it for underlying animation timing, so as long as it loads & plays into the mixer, all is fine.

Ah yes, forgot to mention the bitrates!! But yes, higher bitrates are a bit trickier to play with. 16bit always worked for me.
