knife tool

Post by rpmaguire » 13 Nov 2013, 22:00

Is there a way to use the knife tool to make an object into to 2 objects?

Thanks,

What you want is the split edge tool, then you can break up one object into multiple objects, which is the direction you want for dynamics :)

Say I have a complex piece of geometry.

And I slice this geometry on an angle, I want to delete one half of it...And since It is an angled Cut I can't select the half in an orthographic view , But I have to go in and painstakingly select polygon by polygon along the knife cut.

If The cut would make the object Into two objects , Then I could just delete one half.

Hope this makes sense..
I will try to post a pic

All of the selection modes seem quite sloppy and slow for something like this...
If softimage had a polygonal lasso mode it might be better... But there has to be a way to cut an object into 2 with the knife tool ?

You can also use the cutting plane.
$ifndef "Softimage"
set "Softimage" "true"
$endif

Perfect!
Thank you daniel!!!

Don't know how I missed that, The slice property dosen't automatically come up for the knife tool.
Went into the exlporer and found it.
Problem solved

Thanks Again

Or simply a difference boolean op ? create a cut box and substract it
