Re: Blender in professional productions
Very impressive and even better when you think it was done with a free software.
Re: Blender in professional productions
Open source nature is an important, but not the most relevant, blender "selling point" . If you actually take a look at blender gallery and compare to modo gallery (the other commercial software I studied) blender gallery looking better. This mean more users, grow in number, experience and quality.MauricioPC wrote:Very impressive and even better when you think it was done with a free software.
At to day, if for some reason blender becoming commercial (impossible) I'll be more than happy to pay 1000 € or similar price for it.
This image is nice but also the movie show blender modelling and rendering workflow (note the video use internal render for bake, now cycles bake is ready for use)

Re: Blender in professional productions
Well, I tried modo and I don't like it. When the day comes that I abandon all autodesk products, blender and Houdini would be my bet and perfect combo.
Re: Blender in professional productions
I think every 3D artist must learn and support Blender.
It's the only available (free/open source) 3D software which can compete all other commercial softwares.

Re: Blender in professional productions
I think that this TNT teaser is really an eye-opener. It's one of the most realistic renderings of a human head I've ever seen and an impressive proof that in the hands of talented artists, Blender can indeed be used for professional work already.
Re: Blender in professional productions
I Hope (and I'm quite confident) that is only the beginning of a growing trend, and I'm quite positive that a new flow of professional users (and feedback) would/will have a noticeable effect on blender development.
Can't wait to see!

FXdude, bb3d and nDman, quote what you said.
if it had not been abused by ADSK (with negative results), the phrase "the future is bright" would fit perfectly for Blender.
This image, and others, are result of Nature academy by Blender guru:

That's very impressive Nizar and on par with what I thought was one of the best nature training out there, from Alex Alvarez.

Those are pretty awesome! all the way down to the fluttering and the translucency/light transmission. (!)
What I like in blender is the parameter tweaking goes-on within the node view.
(also giving a great bird's eye view on what's doing what)

Really want to get into Blender more... looking great! If only it had a better outline or scene overviewer, seems to be the only thing that's killing it for me. The simple dynamic Explorer and Node like overview page in SI is hard to beat.
I do think they are trying to nodify everything eventually?

Re: Blender in professional productions
Totally agree. Outliner is near useless in blender, definitely an area where the developers must work.
Lukas Thone (if correctly remember his name) is under work for this task, but I have no info about.
