Fabric Engine for Modo
Tomorrow at FMX at 10am. Got it from FE Facebook.
P.S.: Making it easier to choose Modo now.

Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
And since I'm talking about FE, integrations with Cinema 4D and Houdini are coming as well.

Fabric for Cinema4D
We’re also working with Maxon and one of our testers to integrate Fabric with Cinema4D. It’s a little early for screenshots but you can expect to see much more on all of these integrations over the next few months. The Maxon team have been great to deal with and both companies are eager to see this come together. Watch this space.

Totally awesome news.
Fabric is the phoenix rising from Softimage's still burning fire.

Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
As soon as is released or there's a beta, I'll sign in to start learning.
I just haven't decided to focus on Modo or Cinema 4D yet. But there's still time.

Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
The state of our "very own" Fabric subforum makes me wonder
about integrating it in so many new host applications.
We like to think of ourselves as a rather "technical bunch"
and even we seem unable to get a serious discussion on the topic going.

I think this will improve with the launch of Canvas. Up until now,it was more technical.
But with Canvas, it'll be like learning ICE or VEX or Xpresso, etc.
I'm not a programmer and I always get bored about learning scripting and code, but when I was studying ICE, it felt different. I'm hoping it'll be the same with Canvas.

I suggested the sub forum, and as soon as Canvas for Softimage is released, you'll not be able to shut me up, so I wouldnt worry about that.Hirazi Blue wrote:The state of our "very own" Fabric subforum makes me wonder

Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
On a related subject ... not as big as FE, of course, but still important to make Modo more widely used in the games pipeline.
Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
Same here, as soon as canvas for soft is there I can start integrating canvas tools in existing projects, little babysteps at a time, as long as I have to open Maya to test canvas it's just not happening for the moment.Pooby wrote: I suggested the sub forum, and as soon as Canvas for Softimage is released, you'll not be able to shut me up, so I wouldnt worry about that.
For me Cinema 4D is number one as a candidate to ever replace si because of arnold.

Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
Oh, I don't worry about that and I fully expect for the subforum to find some use when Canvas hits,Pooby wrote:so I wouldnt worry about that.
but I do find it rather telling. "Everybody" raves about FE basically on that promise of Canvas alone,
not so much on its current "less visual", but very powerful state IMHO.

Thats because most of us aren't coders, but a lot of us are adept in ICE I guess.

I agree. Every time I see code, I get bored. It's like learning Houdini. Yeah, it's procedural, it's node, but often you need to put expressions, etc, and even that I don't like.Pooby wrote:Thats because most of us aren't coders, but a lot of us are adept in ICE I guess.

Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
Due the nature of Fabric it will be great to have a resource for the things that are made and that people are willing to share. I seem to recall bringing this up with Paul before. That in itself will encourage people to try and get into it. Really looking forward to playing with it when I get some time. We are going to be moving our students to an alembic based workflow, so being able to create little apps that can easy allow us to load and preview scenes real time will be a great step forward.MauricioPC wrote:I agree. Re: Fabric Engine for Modo
For those of you who aren't following the FE modo thread, some other news ...
http://community.thefoundry.co.uk/discu ... 0&p=924356So, 1st day on FMX with some really really big news.
The fabric system works as beta and was shown in a video during the track - its exactly like the thing they also showed in Maya.
They said: Fabric can also do all that ICE can do - but much more powerful.
Now the next big thing (non official - but true and approved... =8-)
Houdini Engine for Modo is in development. You´ll be able to get all Houdini effects from fluids, hair, cloth, breakable objects, dynamics, rigs, replicators and terrain/tree, house and city generators or everything that will be exported as Engine plugin ... directly running in Modo!

I wonder when 'next' would be.On 06/03/2015 5:49 PM, Paul Doyle wrote:
It's coming for Softimage, Max, Houdini and other DCCs as well.
This alpha has our standalone client and Maya support:
all of our customers are on Maya, so it made sense to do that first.

Not all your customers... though we are moving in that direction and this will definitely make the transition so much easier.

Actually we have you guys, Psyop and Blur all expecting Softimage support sooner rather than later
It's next on the list!
