Migration to MAYA - Service Packs

Post by Daniel Brassard » 26 May 2014, 20:47

If you are migrating to Maya, make sure you check the Autodesk Knowledge Network site for the service Packs.

Currently Maya has 2 service packs and one security hotfix to address the Heartbleed vulnerability.

Thanks for the tip! Wonder why one doesn't receive an email if there is something like this available....

Thanks. That's interesting indeed.
I assume you'd have to install SP1 and SP2 both, i.e. SP1 is not included in SP2?

Who knows?!?! This could be so simple to communicate on the very same page and not in some readme file. Like I said before, there web presence is so horrible. But that true for many big companies. Somehow the bigger the company, the bigger the loss of brain.... In little companies there is always someone who IS responsible, in big companies you just point with your finger to another employee.

Correct, the Maya Service packs are not like Softimage on window systems.
- On Windows, Install SP1, the hot fix and SP2 in that order.
- On Mac and Linux, because they are full product updates, SP2 includes SP1 and the HotFix.
•On Windows operating systems, this service pack patches your existing Maya 2015 software. Do not uninstall Maya 2015 before applying this service pack.
•On Mac and Linux operating systems, this service pack is a full product install. Uninstall your existing Maya 2015 software before installing this service pack
also
For users who rely on LiveUpdate, you’ll be pushed the patch automatically.
Cheers!

Hi Geoath,

You should be OK to install the security hot fix as it only relate to the Autodesk DirectConnect 2015 related files to address the Heartbleed vulnerability.

Until Maya 2014 the services packs were full installs. Glad that they changed that. Now the download is smaller and you don't have to reinstall anything (assuming there's no problem when you install the SPs).

As for the bonus tools, I never even downloaded. Is there anything worth in it?

The bonus tools are useful little scripts, thank's for pointing them out. The pivot script was sorely missing.

I like also the scripts on github, some very useful utilities in there.

And if you do a wide search on Github for "Maya", you will discover some interesting tools/scripts as well as some thing on Maya calendar :)) .

https://github.com/search?q=maya&type=R ... rchresults

Get the ngSkinTool, mGear from Jeremy, abSymMesh and the Maya training material from Autodesk to name a few.

Cheers!

So for the heck of it, I checked if this Extension was available to me through the Subscription Center.
Guess what? It wasn't it. My current subscription turns out to be worth every penny...

if you took the maya+softimage migration package on subscription, you do have the right to Maya EXT1.
Is that what you have?
When does your sub finish, btw?

Yes, that's the package I have and my subscription runs well into spring next year.
I'm sure it will sort itself out (I even opened a support ticket at the subscription center),
it's just so extremely annoying that Autodesk seems to be able to mess something up each and every time...
