what do you have all at complaining with zbrush UI :-? , key word here is "adaptation", believe me after 1 month of 15h a day of zbrush you wont think about the UI anymore =))

couldn't agree with this more. only I would say that the need to be using it so much for so long is way overstated. It took maybe a few days to get used to it really. You do need a tablet though. It's clear that it was designed with a tablet and stylus in mind for control. I will admit I do find the pan and zoom controls a tad clunky at times when I'm moving overly fast but having the ability to control many things with only the alt key makes up for this. Plus the many other things z-brush can do is great. looking forward to 4!

well, i've worked a couple of weeks with zbrush, and it's not a matter of "cant'use it" ; it's a matter of "i don't like it!"
, it's not a complete 3d view, it's a sort of 2.5d; and other little things like the "save document" doesn't save nothing, to save my work i have to export every time the ztool....
i can understand if there is only zbrush, but on the plaza there are also Mudbox and now 3dcoat 3; so i think it's better to spend little time to learn a software with a familiar "way of work". :D

Wow, just when I thought mudbox was creeping up with the beginnings of some nice paint tools... zbrush4 blows MB painting out of the water...

I can empathise with both sides here. I used Zbrush, got confused. Then I played with mudbox, thought it seemed more "intuitive". Then after seeing that pretty much every studio prefers zbrush (and mudbox crashing and the MB paint tools more like a half-baked paint tool demo rather than a full toolset) I took another look at Zbrush.

I watched the new tutorials at the zbrush site, played a bit more and realised that zbrush has massively more potential for the artist. You can do almost ANYTHING. Don't worry about the UI, you don't use it that much once you've got comfortable with the program.

Almost everything you need has a keyboard shortcut.

It looks like you need to know everything from ALL those menus, but really there's not much to learn. Andplus, it almost NEVER crashes or suffers from viewport LAG even with massive models on mediocre machines.
