today only for Max and Maya - a pretty big release, see:

https://www.solidangle.com/news/press-release-arnold-5/
https://support.solidangle.com/display/A5AFMUG/2.0.0

btw ;) ...
One thing, we still need a few days to upload Arnold5-powered versions of HtoA and SItoA, but rest assured they are coming soon.
(Marcos Fajardo @ Arnold Mailing List)

Congrats for the big release and thanks for keeping up the support of Softimage!

there are at least a couple of levels of irony here.

I don't know what you were referring to there, but it's indeed ironic that what helped put Arnold on the map, is in turn helping keep SI on the map.

(probably also by user request/continued usage I'd imagine)

I'm referring to the fact that Autodesk makes new Softimage plug-ins

Would not call it "new" though. Marcos was greatful for the support of XSI users, that I think, they will keep it up as long as it is demanded. At least, as long as Marcos is still in charge of certain decisions. He respects customers, other than other people or companies. Because he has passion about his product. Selling to AD is something like a dark shadow, though :)

Cheers,
Oli

We are getting close to the SItoA 4 release, based on Arnold 5.

Nice!

I haven't tested Arnold 5 in XSI yet, only in <cough> Maya. I like the new PBR workflow, especially with Painter or Quixel it makes nice renders :)
Although in a lot of scenes RedShift is a lot faster still.

Cheers^^ Didn't test anything but mesh volumes yet, I hope it's easy to go 3d coat->Arnold too.

Bullit I didn't use vdb, just a deformed sphere with some noise displacement and 2nd noise shader that cuts the holes using the density input and at the same time goes into a color gradient for the coloring.
