3DS Max 2017
3DS Max 2017
So 3ds max 2017 has tools from Maya 2016 and default image texture from Softimage http://softimage.wiki.softimage.com/xsi ... tImage.htm now.

Re: 3DS Max 2017
Hehehe ... good spotting! But the new Max version has other good things. The viewport is a LOT faster (like 50% faster at the least) and other stuff.
It's no Maya, but on the other side, it's used in a lot more places/industries than Maya.

Re: 3DS Max 2017
Did you installed the demo MaurizioPC?
I am cuirous to know if they improved one simple thing: edge selection of parametric object. Like a edge ring in top edge of a cylinder.

I installed the trial to give it a go. You say "select edge of a polygon model" and not a "parametric one", since you can't select edges in it.
If that's the case, than no. You have to marquee select. Loop don't work and there's not a double click/select.

But I've been comparing 2017 Max with Maya 2016 and viewport performace on Max is way better. It only looses at animation. But high dense meshes, etc, Max handles RAM better and the performance selecting, etc, is better as well.
Re: 3DS Max 2017
Thanks.
That is an good improvement, how are the GUI refreshing problem - why the hell it needed to refresh so often, for ex. the material editor that when i opened it seems to jump the whole thing etc.. The improvements are only inside viewports or also in GUI itself too?
For me GUI consistency is paramount that is why keep criticizing Max or any application that fails to it.

Well, the UI is now interely Qt. It appears more snappy, but I still find Maya or C4D UI faster.
Max has some many sh*t inside that it's hard to optimize everything I guess, but there's improvements. I for one would love Max viewport inside Maya.

Re: 3DS Max 2017
Since demise of Softimage 3ds Max is just taking ideas from it. This time they took Softimage texture and the new Max curve editor at least.

Max 2017 texture check mode

A faster / better / "used in a lot of place" software don't makes a good softwareMauricioPC wrote:It's no Maya, but on the other side, it's used in a lot more places/industries than Maya.

Sure ... the same logic applies to Maya as well. But at the end of the day, you need to work right? And if the job openings are 90% (it's probably less, I'm just trying to make my point better) Maya and Max, why would you use C4D or Modo?

Because it's you, students, who will lead the next generation, why follow the old craps !MauricioPC wrote:Sure ... the same logic applies to Maya as well. If you come to me (small company) to shows me an incredible talent using for example Clarisse IFX or Fabric Engine or ANY next gen tool with fucking cool piece of art then sure i'll make you part of my team ! Plus i'll takes that for a way to crank up the company skills.
If you come to a big company showing great things anyway you can adapt in no time from a soft to another if you understand the logic, that's not the software who makes a great artist, so why begining using unproductive and bad designed tools...

Re: 3DS Max 2017
I'm really trying that. I was going to just continue learning Softimage, but now I'm deciding between Modo and C4D.
Softimage is great tho... I'm surely not learning Max or Maya anymore.

Re: 3DS Max 2017
As matter of fact, at least by looking at job offers by game companies like this list, it seems there's around 3 : 1 in favor of Max against Maya, even when it comes to rigging or some form of animation. Almost the same as it was 15 years ago. Only new thing is, that they asking for knowledge of game engines - long time ago, big players weren't profiled in game engine field.MauricioPC wrote: It's no Maya, but on the other side, it's used in a lot more places/industries than Maya.

Thanks for the list. Hopefully I can find some Modo in there as well.
