After some thorough re-evaluating I now consider myself the proud owner of an akeytsu Indie license... :x

I do think It has potential. It will IMHO always remain a side-kick, a pipeline tool, obviously, but it offers an interesting approach to animation setup. And at its current "early access" price you you really can't go wrong I think.
And quite frankly: personally I needed a new toy after a major health scare and a month in hospital
;))

Thanks.

I was upset by your new avatar...shouldn't you rotate it?

You're right, it was too cynical (especially to those who do not know how I spent the last month),
although it also represented the life of Softimage (and the si-community?) quite nicely IMHO.

Thanks and deliberately completely OT (my definitive statement on the matter, but after I have alluded to it, you all deserve an explanation): I had an internal organ that started to fail. Hence one month in hospital. It all seems to work again properly now .
#:-s

PS The doctor explicitly ordered me to never use Maya again... =))

Thanks.
Back to the official topic of this thread:
I dismissed akeytsu too soon initially,
but my own personal situation
("oh no, not the hospital story again" %-()
at the time may have clouded my judgement.

At its price (not just at the lower "early access" price) it would seem to represent very good value for money.

This doesn't mean it does things better than our beloved Softimage.
What it does mean is that its approach strikes me as rather refreshing
and this different approach makes it an interesting toy to play/experiment with.
As the saying goes: "Variety is the spice of life!"
The only real downside I have so far found in akeytsu is the rigging part.
Its approach to rigging is based on a simplified rig, which can be a good thing,
but setting up the rig is slightly more cumbersome IMHO than setting up a default basic rig in Softimage.
But that's probably a first, rather biased impression.

As if anyone is interested, I'll try to keep you all updated on my progress
as I now believe it to have true potential as a side-kick to Softimage.
;)

The new beta version looks interesting. What bothers me about this beta is the glacial pace it is held in. Could really help the (really nice) software, if the company would step up development a notch (or two). An open beta with hardly anything happening for weeks at a time (this is their second real update to the beta!), sends the wrong message to potential customers IMHO.

To prove me wrong about the "glacial pace" they updated the beta to version 1.1 yesterday. ;)
We released a new version with a fix concerning unit conversion at FBX import.
