Cory Mogk post at Area blogs

Post by Bullit » 04 Jan 2013, 06:05

The big boss spoke at years end. Nice to see several references to Softimage.

As black mark he points us to Autodesk University but not one of Softimage tutorials are viewable...

A long boring read with lots of marketing gibberish that's how I see it at least, but then again, I've been accused of being cynic in the past so it must be that.
The society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools.

In the top of the AREA, go to Learning and then click on AU Masterclasses. Sign in with your AREA login and then there should be two Softimage videos there. Exploring the power of Non-Linear Character Setup with Autodesk Softimage and Character Deformation Effects Using Autodesk® Softimage® ICE.

There are other Softimage videos but it is a combination of Softimage and Maya.

I hope this helps!

I use Softimage for game development. Is there really anything else?

I went there. Both Softimage classes don't have video available: http://community.softimage.com/au2012

Not sure why it is not working. Here is the link I followed. You may have to sign in. This video worked for me, not sure on your end. :-\ Good Luck.

@Bullit - Maybe you're a bit harsh, stating it to be a "black mark" (just maybe... :-s )
On the Autodesk University website it states explicitly:
AU Las Vegas class recordings will be available on-demand in mid-January.
So let's wait until mid-January to see, if Softimage will prove to have been forgotten yet again...
Stay safe, sane & healthy!

well there were over 750 classes for AU2012, so they might be forgiven for it maybe taking some time.
If the classes were recorded, then they do generally get put up.

AD University requires another login account and password...? I thought it was all meant to be one unified passwords now?

and Autodesk please.. sign in with twitter account does not mean putting you to the create new account page and manually filling in a form *then* linking the account with twitter.. Awkward..

Hopefully there are more 2012 for soft coming

17 3dsMax, 9 Maya and 3 Softimage. Not an encouraging ratio so far.

And 111 for AutoCAD. There weren't any other AU sessions for Softimage; AU is not about M&E products so there aren't that many M&E sessions. The one year I attended AU there was nothing for Softimage, a couple for Maya, and about 25 for Max/Max Design.

It is important to notice that this were not done by AD. They had called out for the comunitie so people would stand up and create content. I guess the numbers are a mere reflection of user base size and would not read much about ADs position on it.

I think what it means is that we as a community need to get more stuff on there. It might be that the softimage community is not aware that the courses are only hosted by Autodesk. I know I initially thought that they were courses put out only by Autodesk themselves.
