Update to phpBB 3.2.1

Post by rray » 04 Sep 2017, 04:22

what's new:
  • responsive layout now default
  • the forum now uses gzip compression for faster http transfer
  • using php 7 for faster page loading time
  • quick reply box
  • imgur autoupload: automatically upload an image from your computer or your phone camera and add it to your post by clicking the "i" button
  • lightbox plugin for viewing large images and thread galleries
  • announcement feature
  • 3.2 has a bit neater look, rounded corners and such
  • 3.2 has a few more configuration options in the admin and user control panels
  • active topics now show 1 year
  • emoji support on mobile devices 😱🙉🙈🙊👌
  • mark topic as "solved" feature for boards where it makes sense
  • top row gallery now with scrolling to older entries
what has changed:
  • media embedding - the "vim" and "youtube" and "video" tags are now deprecated. use [media] or just the url now.
some recent posts have been updated so you shouldn't easily find any of these old tags hanging around any video. The media player can be used for the following sites:
ABC News, Amazon Product, audioBoom, Audiomack, Bandcamp, BBC News, Blab, Bleacher Report videos, Break, Brightcove, CBS News Video, CNBC, CNN, CNNMoney, CollegeHumor, Comedy Central, Coub, Dailymotion, Democracy Now!, dumpert, 8tracks, ESPN, Facebook, Flickr, FORA.tv, Fox News, Funny or Die, Gamespot, GameTrailers, Getty Images, Gfycat, Gifs.com, GitHub Gist (via custom iframe), Global News, GoFundMe, Google Drive, Google+, Google Sheets, Healthguru, Hudl, Hulu, HumorTV, IGN, IMDb, Imgur, Indiegogo, Instagram, Internet Archive, İzlesene, JW Platform, Kontinental Hockey League (КХЛ), Kickstarter, Kiss Video, Libsyn, LiveCap, LiveLeak, Livestream, Mail.Ru, Medium, Metacafe, Mixcloud, MLB, MRCTV, MSNBC, National Geographic Channel, National Geographic Video, NBC News, NBC Sports, NHL Videos and Highlights, NPR, The New York Times Video, Oddshot, Pastebin, Pinterest, Plays.tv, Podbean, Prezi, Reddit threads and comments, Rutube, Scribd, SlideShare, SoundCloud, Sportsnet, Spotify, Steam store, Stitcher, Straw Poll, Streamable, Team Coco, TED Talks, The Atlantic Video, The Guardian, The Onion, TinyPic videos, TMZ, Trailer Addict, Tumblr, Twitch, Twitter, Ustream, VBOX7, Veoh, VEVO, Viagame, Video Detective, Videomega, vidme, Vimeo (use 'video' tag), Vine, VK, Vocaroo, Vox, Washington Post Video, WorldStarHipHop, The Wall Street Journal Online, XboxClips, Xbox DVR, Yahoo! Screen, Youku, YouTube (use 'video' tag!), Zippyshare audio files,
  • for links to media files like mp3, mp4, use the tag "mediafile"
  • rimg tag has been removed because phpbb 3.2 does image resizing itself
  • twitter tag has been removed because media tag handles twitter
what has not changed
  • original smilies :ymhug: 8-x
Please put some old features to the test like uploading, password-remind! report here if you find a bug! Let us know what you think!

:ymhug: :o) \:D/ :-bd :ymdaydream: :-h :-B O:-) =))

Ha Ha ha ha!

Talk about turning misfortune into fortune!

Or turning a cookie issue into a quite welcome full upgrade across the BOARD ( litterally :) and pun intended )
and a probably well overdue backup.

Good thing smileys work ( and everything t'il now )
because .... :) :D ;;) :ymhug: :x :p :ymsmug: B-) :ymdaydream: :-! :-bd

Ya! a crate of fortune cookies :-!

From my end everything seems to work great, video posts, images, layouts, links...

If anything at all, the page drawing (from page to page) the banner images are initially layed-out vertically
making for quite some jumping around when drawing every page refresh.

Also, one thing that was quite handy was the first level "View active topics"
(now under the first dropdown)

which is what people generally bookmark, and what we generally go back to from any-everywhere else.

So would perhaps a "View active topics" besides the "Forums" be possible ?

Otherwise really great job ! looks great !

Scratch this one, you either already fixed it, or was my browser busy with something else. ~o) :ymsmug:

Yay Active Topics Button!

Also, I know the BG is currently it the main "Logged-in indicator"

but what would you think of a header like this?

Image

while perhaps then using column header colors as "Logged-in indicator" (if they are unified and drivable by status)

The BG is one of several great abstract art from JoLab
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/?uid=610622

( Some of which would by the way also work great as future (SurvivalPack?) splashscreens. )

I have yet to find his email, (still looking for his contact)

But worse case perhaps we could use one while putting a link "3D Artwork by JoLab" with a link to his page ?

removed rimg tag which had some issues with new board version -rr

If you you would like to try it, you can get it here
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/b3k ... 4.jpg?dl=1

It is fairly light weight because detail is only localized, and it is wide enough to accommodate for very large screens.

It also fades off to a constant color (which you can pick to define site BG color)

Notifications have changed. You have go to "User Control Panel > Board preferences > Edit notification options" to set them to your personal preference.
Options are being notified in the top bar when logged in or being notified by mail (or both).
Stay safe, sane & healthy!

That's some nice artwork. Never seen it.

A lot of people are on 4k screens. I don't know if many of them browse full screen (but I've seem some do!!!)
I still think they should be that width, or (better) smaller and fade into the background color towards the right side too.

In the end it's the decision of the board founder what we'll use. He's not a big fan of the current color scheme so I'll be changing that in the next few weeks anyway - and include some of you bg pics too as suggestions since it's easy to switch them out!

Beautiful. Just logged in.

My first and only concern was.. wondering how to log in, where are those links? I managed to log in by trying to post.

My second thought is... there is blue? I miss the greys of SI, haha minor detail, but it works.

Other than that, the upgrade is beautiful. Really good work. The banner is more awesome, and it feels more.. homey.

I agree, I stumbled upon his page about a year ago.
I just now tried to get in touch with him through his DeviantArt page

I agree about the 4k with fading on the right, will update the BG.

Also wanted to say I like the new image viewing experience!
( "on the fly" and easily closable expanded view when clicking images, with prev/next nav) :ymsmug:

Thanks mattmos! Looks like we learned from that experience.

Before you do, I noticed that the fading can be done with css!

Would mean there's no effort involved so I think I can just drop some images as the background.jpg and that should do it!

I'll try that next, but finishing some other css tweaks first.

Okay no prob,

Also I've been meaning to ask,
what would you think of having things more centric to the  Active Topics  page ?

Meaning as the actual home page, and the page that we are lead to when logging-in / logging-out ...
and from where we could post new topics while setting the category in the topic editor.
(instead of having to navigate to the board index, and enter the category to create a new topic)

:-?
