ET_PassManager

Post by EricTRocks » 14 Apr 2010, 02:22

Sorry for the cross post but wanted to show everyone something I'm working on:

Just uploaded a video to vimeo of a plug-in I'm working on. The plug-in saves passes, partitions, partition visibility settings, objects in partitions, and overrides into external *.sipass files. This allows you to setup your passes, partitions, and overrides on 1 scene and easily import the setup into other scenes without cluttering the scene with merged scenes and environments.

Please see the vimeo video for more info:

Looks useful... :-bd

BTW cross-posting news and new tools should never be a problem IMHO,
just as long as you don't forget to cross-post the further development also... :ympray: :D
Stay safe, sane & healthy!

Glad you believe its useful. I'll definitely keep posting updates. Got to figure out the storage of the materials and will post back with more info on that.

Cheers,

Hi Eric,

Can I know please, what's your final goal with this plugin, and where you're going to bring it ? I mean, what are the specs to come, and at what point will you stop working on ?

from my part, I'd love to see output path saving and as you know auto distribution by pick session...

Thanks

Hi Julius,

I'm not sure that I have a solid timeline for being done with this plug-in. So I believe I'll be continuing to work on it for a while into the future.

Features I'll be working on in the coming week(s):
- Basic Pass options (first tab on the Pass Properties PPG). Output path, etc.
- Partition Properties (Geo Approx, Display, etc)

So the feature that was discussed on the vimeo page, just so I know what is really needed if I implement it:
1. Import your passes and partitions
2. Select an object
3. Click a button / menu item
4. Pick session starts to select a partition
5. Once a partition is selected the object gets added to that partition.

Is there something I'm missing or is that just the same as drag and dropping the object to the particular partition? Or is it supposed to add that object to all the partitions named the same as the selected partition?

Thank you Eric...

For the last tool (pick session) : that's not exactly what I was thinking.

I think a better one would be this one :

1. Import your passes and partitions
2. you build a new object, or import a new model of your choice.
3. when done, you select your new object.
4. You clic on the tool button.
5. Pick session start to select an object already distributed like you want in passes and partitions.
6. Your new object inherit of the same pass and partition distribution than the object picked at step 5.

Thanks Julius!

I see what you mean. I can probably do that too. Though It'll be one of the "extra" tools bundled with the Pass Manager. I'll put it on the list! :)

Eric

cool, Thank you again for your work !! In my case, it represents hours of work saved, cause I usally have to work with 50 up to 150 passes in some cases.

Try the discussed fix in that XSI Blog thread. I believe that is the case. If not post back and I'll see what I can do. Also please post more specific info if the problem persists after the suggestion in the above thread.

I got the same error than uno...

I read the post you linked, but I'm not sure what to do : "3- Comment all the lines inside this function except the last one that starts with return" What does this lean ? May be the word "comment" has several meanings that I don't understand?
