Fabric for Softimage

Some questions:

A-can the setups presented ne developed inside Softimage

B -If so is there a way to open the canvas fast and can we open a scene and have the canvas already opened?

So, from a Softimage POV this reintroduces an ICE-like graph we already have.
In a single-DCC environment what would be the clear benefit of adopting Fabric 2?

In my point of view it's about modern tools, speed and Scriptable operators.
Ice is not always the easy way to do things, sometimes some lines of code do it better and faster, this could be done in fabric while staying in the graph. Just like the attribute wrangle node in houdini, for an exemple take a look here https://vimeo.com/132051304 how in 10 lines of code you could have a "plexus" operator

But didn't Fabric One already bring that to the table?

Fabric is being improved, Softimage is not.

Fabric also introduces compatibility with Maya and Modo at least. Later i think will arrive for 3DsMax and eventually others. I think this is very important.

Cool, reminds me to POV-Ray Short Code Contest :). Just to add some Mandel fractal to make it even nicer :).
Now seriously. Instead of standard set of evergreens in category, wouldn't hurt to see some finished, for-end-user-tool, based on Fabric. Hope that mr Mootz is already working on some....

Better performance in rigging and animation? Maybe some tools that are developed in studio can be shared for all Fabric users.

Now ... If I only could wrap my head around Modo ... :)

I think if you're only using Softimage and have no intention of shifting application, then it's a hard sell :)

That said, you might enjoy these two updates:

http://fabricengine.com/almost-time-to- ... the-kraken - Kraken is nearly here (with Softimage and Maya support)
http://fabricengine.com/fabric-for-renderman - Fabric for Renderman, which is looking great

/Moderator Edit: Fixed the Renderman link. (MauricioPC)

Is there any plans for Kraken to support other DCC's?

The Renderman videos are quite good. :-bd

The hope is that people familiar with other DCCs will contribute to Kraken - it's a project we're assisting with, but the effort is coming from people like Eric at Hybride. We'll see how things go once it's released :)

Thanks for the reply Paul.

I hope some talented C4D riggers may join to help. It would be nice to have more powerful tools for C4D and outside of AD realm. In any case, it's looking very good and I hope you guys are able to expand to more studios. :)
