Fabric is very important for si users who want to make sure all their work is not lost the day it's time for migrating.
Now (or in the near future) it will be possible to produce ice-like stuff in softimage and use this work later in other dcc's.
Cooperate with people working in other dcc's and use your favorite fabric tools in there projects...
It'll be the first time you can actually share complex rigging between applications.
Edit: Didn't read page 2 in this thread, it's all been said

Re: Fabric Engine 2 for Softimage
Hey all,
In regards to Kraken, we just need more Fabric integrations to get Kraken in other DCC's. 3ds max is the closest that I know of but still needs more polish and then we can take a week and create the Kraken Max plug-in. Same for other DCC's. As soon as they support Splice / Canvas it's only a little bit of work to get Kraken going as long as the DCC supports Python and the basic objects necessary.
Being able to generate the rig in multiple DCC's is a pathway to migration from Softimage to whatever and also to open up pipelines so you can have live rigs in FX scenes if needed rather than just caches.
PS - We got the Kraken UI working in Softimage today.

Hope that helps... (plus you can look through the new website and get a good idea)

Hi FabricPaul
A noob request, how about a video tutorial on how to install Fabric2, I had no luck at the weekend and had to manually entered the environment variables but still no joy, looking at forums on the subject, a lot of people are having similar problems.

Re: Fabric Engine 2 for Softimage
If you're on the beta then please post the request there - I'm not seeing many/any installation issues on that list though.
There's a pretty good 'Getting Started with Fabric Engine 2' in there. If you downloaded FE1.15.2 from the website then I'd say sign up for the beta - we aren't going to record/write new material for 1.x.
Cheers,
Paul

Re: Fabric Engine 2 for Softimage
p.s. not dismissing that it's difficult to install FE1.x btw, just that I don't want to burn resources on an older product when FE2 is more likely to be what you want anyway....
