Great! What is it?

Allows SI to read the smoke fluid cache, created for example in Houdini, and render in MR or Arnold, using dedicated volumetric shaders. And mr. Core seems to be satisfied with possibilities of Open VDB, which is probably more important for SI implementation.

cool, glad oleg is working on a plugin.. i have made one for mesh conversion tools...

of course it isnt for everyone cause you need to compile from source. but openvdb is a highly efficient voxel storage format.

Update

Simple demo on how easy now we can render houdini fluid stuff inside of good old softimage :-) all done via Openvdb plugin which i'll release in a couple of days. Original explosion is a sample scene in houdini apprentice, thanks to vimeo.com/user1985035 for help with export of .vdb files.

u did a great job , can we change some data like color and position of VBD file in ice ? or maybe use data to create something in ice ?
thank u Oleg

Sure. The color is more easy to change in RT, but position\scale\density of volume can be changed via ICE and resaved to disk
