If Mr.Core finishes his ExplosiaFX (soon?), he's allowed to be a "bad man" once in a while.
The fact that this was a nicely done hoax was more or less evident from the total lack of buzz in the community as a whole (including the Mailing List) about such a beta.

Hirazi hit it on the nail. Softimage is being used, it's just an older reliable car that the mechanics continue to service annually, for now.

back to fumefx - i dont have access to ffx right now, but if someone can send me a 10-20 frames in field3d format of any simulation ( with smoke\fire ) to gbotfx@gmail.com - I'll try to make it possible to import f3d format files in XSI, then convert to openvdb and of course render with arnold\mental ray. FFX 3.5.3 is required, and you should also check something like "use standard Deflate (gzip) filter in Field3D" in preferences ( at least this should be right in maya version, not sure for max though )
