Can't wait to see SDK changes
Re: User Guide Softimage 2014 online
In fact, you can already pack other existing UVs throught Unfold Pack feature since 2012.SAP (maybe ealier). It just needs few more clicks or few lines of script.

When using an AVID system you use '[' and ']' for trimming a clip, maybe they wanted to change that. Who knows?McNistor wrote:Before you were using '[' and ']' for trimming a clip before and after with the time slider placed on a particular frame. You can now press Alt+click on the middle of either edge of a clip and drag in either direction to trim it interactively in the Animation Mixer.
Now they added alt+click. Why do they waste time on such things it's beyond my power of comprehension.
Is Alt+click what Maya uses? Who knows?

Well this release may not be really amazing... let's give them a break the team is new to the software. Maybe next year will be better.
But the camera sequencer can be useful and the ability to handle bigger scenes is also great.

Um...am I the only one who is not getting a scrollbar when I click the links in the guide, except for one catergory? I check Maya's and I am scrolling like crazy...

QFA, but there are somethings that only AD can do, like the recent positive comments about what works for you in FaceRobot, and ours about AD creating a DX 11 viewport, as well as improved large object count performance and the such like.
Disagree with the 'team is new' they have been working on it for a while, as far as Luceric says, and that excuse can and only lasts for so long, and it's time is up. Seem many small teams - with big code bases - delivered more.
Yes the docs and the volume of improvements do come up short, but that seems to be a theme across all the AD products Maya and Max included, at least from comments I've read.
But with over 7000 vimeo's tagged with softimage and freely shared tools and excellent 3rd party tools and a good mailing list, it's still a not such a bad place to be.
It's a shame though because from all the comments and passion here (shown sometimes as rage/rants), it's pretty obvious that many realize, it could have been so much better.
Re: User Guide Softimage 2014 online
It is not an entirely new team, there are some members who have been working on Softimage/ICE for a couple of years already, at least that is what I remember some AD people stating on here. Also, we did not get an SAP last year, as we were told they wanted to give the "new team" even more time to put in some good features...I think they had plenty of time...this is barily even an SAP release. In addition, it seems like they focused a lot of their energy on a system that they got a lot of heat on from last year - CrowdFX.luis7654 wrote:Well this release may not be really amazing... let's give them a break the team is new to the software. So this release seems a fix - to what extend it still needs to be seen - of 2013. They should have called it 2013.5 at maximum.

buhahhahha!!
Where's that screenshot from? Is it even real? OMFG...
If it's real, I really hope there's one option like that in Max and Maya as well.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. Instead of opening a dialog with the user base for some much needed damage control they simply shut down the link again...
edit 22:14 - The Maya docs have now been removed as well

"biting the bullet" doesn't look so much of a possibility, but instead, it nicely shapes itself as a certainty.
They'd really like to axe it, but on the other hand they'd like to keep the current Softimage user base in their court as well so they started giving hints apparently.

Took them 12 hours of bureaucracy to close it.Hirazi Blue wrote:Well, it was fun while it lasted. Instead of opening a dialog with the user base for some much needed damage control they simply shut down the link again...
The Maya docs, however, are still online. Funny...
