Motion Tools 1.1Author: Gustavo Eggert Boehs
Project moved to GitHub in Jul 2017 --- Motion Tools is a small collection of tools that aims to aid Motion Graphic work being created inside Softimage. The idea is to create a workflow for the creation, distribution and animation of instances as intuitive as the ones found in comercial solutions. Since it is created ontop of ICE the tools have speed and combustibility considerably superior to similar solutions.

Demo video available here. For demos of the previous beta versions, see here vor v0.1, here for v0.2 and here for v0.3.

Nizar: it seems to work here. you have two options, you can either uv before slicing or after. if you slice after though you must move the ICE tree that constraints the poligons to the points out of the modeling stack in order for the UVs not to slide (unless you want that obviously), as shown in the picture below. about exporting animation... no clue :)
I remember exporting PointOven files to modo back in the day we rendered a project in it.

additive mode is not working though :/
I'm working on it

Hey Angel, that is looking great!! :ymapplause:
I admire how people get creative with abstract animation, I have a hard time coming up with anything that look mildly fun.

thanks Gustavo :D

Never would been able to do it with out your tools. ^:)^

If i may make a suggestion for your next version(s). :ympray:

having an option to moving the center of the particles would be cool.

and maybe more emittion types like FIBONACCI ice emitter (http://www.si-community.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2704) , or fractal and/or other geometric shapes arrays.

I have tried using MT on a shot. where its a snow cap mountain, and tiles flip to go to a more greener spring like mountain.
MT particle constraint to particle is great with small objects but not so good with larger meshes.

this where i think it would be cool to expand it over to the modeling stack. like this
https://vimeo.com/40331679

rotate, scale and transform with in the modeling stack with your linear and harmonic modifiers i think would be soo wicked.
here is where i used "rus_n07" tron effect https://vimeo.com/49346202 (-just a test to figure it out-) very fast under modeling stack.

sorry if thats too much to ask. b-(

Well that is already possible, to some extent. If you are instancing a shape, all you got to do is change the pivot in the master. I'm adding a pivot offset for the Polygon Island Constraint (as long as you are using existing islands). I have not quite figured how to do it if polygons are sliced into single islands, so cant promisse anything about that.

The videos you show on ICE topology look great :)
But it is definatly a different approach then what I used. My idea was to have it work in a way you could use the already existent and abundant compounds that deal with particles in ICE. So it is a whole different thing, each with its own advantages. The main speed problem in my compounds are when you use Existing Polygon Islands as I have to evaluate what is a polygon island inside the ICE tree... if only there was a Polygon Island context, that might be a lot faster. But the amount of geo you show here (https://vimeo.com/40331679) should be no biggie when dicing polygons into islands.

Dont quite understand, you mean like gizmos?

thanks for all the input :)

Hey guys, v1.1 is out. Nothing big some of the rotation problems discussed in this thread are gone (I hope) and a pivot for constrained polygon islands was added. There is a new sample scene in the sample scene folder showing how to use this feature.
No news on the MB front, sorry MR users but my time to work on this is limmited :(

As usual as files and release notes can be found here:

hey Gustavo

I Just installed the MT 1.1, but the animation clip doesnt seem to work. and nor does the pivot for constrained polygon islands. i tried using both 2012 and 2013.

might be be doing something wrong?

for the few guys who asked me to do, an "How i did it" video. on my sphere animation.

sorry about the video quality is the beginning, but after the first min. it gets better.
and please excuse all my swearing.
i tried making the video simple quick and fun.
cheers

hey Angel, thank you very much for taking the time to record and share that... great creative use of the tools :D
plus it is funny to listen to :D not like my videos.

Ill take a look into the problems you report. Was animation clip thingy working for you prior to the update? Plus, note that it will only work on 2013, as it has a little node inside which is 2013 only.

Cheers!

yeah that seemed to be the problem.

but when i try the slice poly to islands, and try to change the pivot, it doesn't seem to work. and when i do that and add an animation clip mod. the node is red.

it works but its red, i dove into it, but i couldn't see anything off the back
