Baking out shapes?

Post by Pooby » 01 Feb 2018, 11:52

Hi There.

Does anyone know how to bake shapes to keyframes? I have some shapes driven by expressions, but I need to export it as FBX and the expressions don't translate of course.
Hence I need shape animation curves as baked keys. I can't see a way of plotting this but I'm sure there's a way. Does anyone know?

Thanks

Hi,

The only way I can think of is connecting the shape weights to the X position of some nulls that get exported along in the fbx. Maybe someone else has a nicer solution.

Later in the other program these nulls could be connected directly, or their X animation curves copied over the shapes weights.

If the nulls are named exactly like the shapes are this could be scripted.

Thanks so much for the reply..

After some fiddling, I found out that you can do it if you select the clip weight ( the one in the explorer) and then plot the marked value. I made a little script, so I could select them all in the mixer and do it in one fell swoop.

I always found it a little counterintuitive that although you can animate shapes in the shape mixer, its not REALLY there that its stored, its a kind of proxy for the Tracks. Anyway.. the above method works.

cheers

Ah nice, I forgot about that fbx keeps plotted animation on the shapes.

Plotting the clip weight! huh! Good one.
