Heat Map Rigging for Softimage

Post by Falam » 07 Oct 2013, 17:05

I like Maya's Heat Map feature for rigging, very intuitive, does something like this exist for Softimage ? I read all it is, is a occlusion map. My thought was, baking out an AO map, using that as a envelope deformer, hoping it works as fluid as Maya Heat Map.

It's certainly not that easy. I know Alan Fregtman had implemented the Pinnochio "auto-rigging" / auto-skinning technique a while back though. We don't have anything built in. There is another AD presentation video that has much better auto-weighting algorithm that I'd prefer to the heat map one.

You Referenced the AD site, it can't be on the Autodesk Learning Channel, most of the videos there are for learning ICE, or Face Robot ?

The AD video is a bit hard to find:

The Pinnochio one is super simple using Google.

The AD video is a technical paper, and pinocchio is not complete, as you mentioned, for Softimage. The implementations that are ready for production are built into Blender and Maya currently. At present there is nothing I can use for Softimage for weighting rigs, right now, I just made a full circle.
