Miror envelope problem

Post by amitr » 27 Apr 2013, 13:59

Hey,

I downloaded Sven model from dota 2 workshop to try out simple rigging and posing.

I used the Build-in xsi biped guid and rig. I finish setup the rig and half of the skin.
I selected the good half and envelope-> miror weights.
XSI ask me for plane and i give it the X plane (YZ).

No effect have made. the other side still not good. i tired to select other points (several times and different areas in the model) and still no effect.

Maybe its because the model is imported?
please help.

thanks.

Did you create a Symmetry Map before you are mirroring? Double check that there is all blue on either side of the mid line. Also check your SymmetryMapping Template that the correct deformers are matched up for mirroring.

I deleted the current symmetry map, and created a new one. After that I deleted everything from the mirror list except of the bones. (last time i did not deleted them).

Did the mirror and still no effect.

If I will upload the scene, can you take a quick look at it ? it will be great help for me.
thanks.

Sorry I won't be able to look at a scene but if you post some images it may help. Is your character at it's bind pose and also at world 0?

Is the mapping template correct? Such that bicep_L_bone is mapped to bicep_R_bone for example? What does the symmetry map look like as I asked before? Bright green down the midline but bright blue on either side?

The names of the 2 sides are ok i think, How can i check it ? cant find the list.

I took an Screen shot of the sym.map and it is not green and blue, instead many colors.

With the symmetry map selected, hit the W key to see the colors. Black means there isn't a point that matches on the other side. With your character's arms being so unsymmetrical I doubt you'll be able to mirror properly for those areas.

The symmetry mapping template should be under the model.

Looks like best option is actually looking at that scene opened if you can share it, everything else would be guessing.

The symmetry mapping template generation fails completely for this as long as there are the two extra shoulder parts in the model.

Extract them (select all their polygons, then r-click menu->"extract polygons" with the delete option) - you can reapply them using merge at a later point.

Next you'd need to clean up the existing symmetry stuff (delete the symmetry cluster under your model and the 3 symmetry mapping templates under your Biped model)

Now when you select the points of the right half of the model then pick "mirror weights", symmetry mapping generation works here except for some stray points here and there and the lower arms, which are modeled differently.
