Hi, about Octane, altough 'Face' stopped working it, how in your opinion, how was the last iteration?wireframex wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 12:26 FYI

Phil
Because speaking for myself when putting out things (like for the hair thing)
I try to get it to a point where it does what it does well, so that I don't have to visit it again
(or at least not for a while, to avoid needing to refamiliarize myself with inner workings which is somewhat more time intensive)
And maybe similarly, I was very much under the impression that the latest additions covered some (if not most) of what it was previously lacking un terms of production value,
such as motion blur on deformed objects , and on ice instances.. compound creation.. and other things.
So would you consider it to be in a more than usable state?
and how about availability?
In regards to Redshift, if you're at-all ever using XSI, if you think you can find a way to muster the money, Redshift definitely is something you'll want to get a permanent license of.
And that's ***regardless of whatever future development,
Even with one GPU, you can render as fast as what a really heavy 2d comp tree would take in terms of time, without at-all overtaking your computer's responsiveness while it's going.
and as far as I can tell, it's otherwise still supported to at least some (perhaps superficial, but non-insignificant) extent.
Though I would hope they would eventually follow Arnold's example, so that it would similarly no longer be their responsability.
Anyhoo, cheers!

Damn fell 4 it would be too good to be true
Unfortunatly never heard of face again either, not that I contacted him though.
I asked the otoy guys if I could continue work on the XSI plugin, but they have no more interest in Softimage
I was going along really well, so I'm surprised there's no more updates. It was still at V3.0 but he added a quite a lot of stuff since this https://www.si-community.com/community/ ... f=5&t=6739 .. (see https://render.otoy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=29). Didn't release the latest updates thoughHi, about Octane, altough 'Face' stopped working it, how in your opinion, how was the last iteration?
Let's hope he's doing well.

it is necessary that the autodesk will release a new version (embedded in it all the add-ons) -and made an open source! then octane 4 will be released
but seriously - cycles (to improve it)
free and promising

Re: all renders that were for xsi-softimage (Was there ever a renderman for xsi- softimage?)
well if you wanna keep working with softimage with a very reliable render engine for the future years to come i suggest you to go right now and buy redshift.
with one license price you will get all kind of 3d packages in case you eventually switch to something else and it still works perfectly with softimage, personally i dont care neither feel lany lack of improvements (post fx only so far). 99% of the core is still the same and developers still pushing out core functionality to softimage too with each release.
The current version for softimage does everything and does it extremely well.

CYCLES - CPU & GPU

&
Open Shading Language (OSL) & Cycles render engine
is a shading language developed by Sony Pictures Imageworks for use in its Arnold Renderer.
It is also supported
by
Otoy's Octane Render,[citation needed]
V-Ray 3, and by the
Cycles render engine in Blender (starting with Blender 2.65). !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OSL's surface and volume shaders define how surfaces or volumes scatter light in a way that allows for importance sampling; thus,
it is well suited for physically-based renderers that support
ray tracing and global illumination.
