Technically, it's SItoA that is being kept alive here. If not, it doesn't matter if Arnold is available or not
Softimage is on a slow, unstoppable ending. At some point we have to let go, and move on.
The final step of acceptance....

If you had 3DeLight, you were very close. Renderman native (not so much outside large studios). Their is the Affogato open source project

Re: all renders that were for xsi-softimage
It was, even if considering only releases available for everyone able to buy. Perhaps first one (to notice again, available for public) was
XSI Man by Graphic Primitives around 2006, it worked in same way as contemporary Maya solutions, it was able to export scene as RIB file, together with attributes, while shaders were coded outside of XSI. However it didn't lasted long. Price of plugin wasn't affordable, just as everything else in Renderman world in these times (there were always free Renderman solutions around, but just basic, in reality you needed something to hell expensive, at some point). It was possible to get it to work with a bit of technical knowledge, but for anything advanced like some cool shader, you wanted a Renderman guru.
Affogato translator released for free around 2006, originally in house tool created for movies like Happy Feet (if I'm correct), this one also had no support for XSI Render tree. Anyway, it had a good number of nicely set defaults - for example, first vertex color was automatically interpreted as Cd attribute, automatic sequence of rendering and loading shadow maps. I was able alone to render a 3 minute movie, using Affogato and 3delight, several times faster then in Mental Ray (even in rasterizer mode) - because motion blur and DOF were ''free of charge'' in Rendermans.
3delight (XSI plugin started around 2006 - 2007) is Renderman compatible renderer, theoretically one should be able to export RIB file compatible for other Renderman - while I don't know how this works today (or does it work at all) when everything uses path-tracing, instead of old-fashion REYES rendering.
