Hello. I'm new to the forum and was wondering about how to purchase this software.

I'm a Max and Maya animator but on occasions there are a few jobs that come up asking for Softimage animators. I've never used, but with it being discontinued, you cant download a trial which is a shame as the software looks very interesting. I also haven't heard anything about Autodesk making it PD yet.

So - where can I buy this package for european shores? Or will I have to buy a license of someone else?

Thanks

I am afraid you're "out of luck",
unless you'll find someone with an existing license willing to part with it...
But even then I am unsure, if Autodesk will facilitate the license transfer.
:((

The update...

Supposedly, the Autodesk rep that we have says that soon 2014 will no longer be supported. meaning that if you reformat, you might be crap out of luck at getting the software back.

Yet, i thought i read somewhere on here that they will make sure you have access to this software for as long as you own it with authorization codes just like they always have?

To me, it just sounded like the rep was trying to stear us toward buying the more expensive Lease options that no one likes...

rather than buying it from B and H
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1003194-REG/autodesk_590f1_wwr11e_1001_softimage_2014_commercial_new.html

which is still up BTW.

If worse comes to worse i guess one can always use a key gen to gain access again. Or Softimage COULD be nice and do what adobe did for older software like Audition. and give owners a license that works no matter what and doesn't need activation.

that's the least they can do for screwing us over.

we tried the b and h option but it didn't go through. i was hoping they'd have the serial number on hand and send it to us with a link to download from t heir site...but no such luck.

The CDW people said the option to own is also gone from their site. all they have left is the subscription option for 2015 for three years.

oh well. why did i wait so long to upgrade? :)

well, in case anyone wants to know.. the bhphotovideo option was a bust.
the cdw option was a bust.

apparently no one actually had the product on hand, yet they still listed it for sale and had to check with autodesk.

i still think autodesk is being tremendously short sighted.

what harm would it do to add it in as a bonus with either maya or max?

they already own it. it's just sitting around.

Just an update on this subject. Apparently a guy was able to sell his license of 3ds Max in Europe.

So maybe there is hope. But it would required someone willing to sell their Softimage license, which I believe will be hard. :)

I don't have money at the moment, but at least I liked that there's a possibility. Hopefully some users can get their hands into Softimage. :)

Hi

Can you legally purchase softimage from another user and also anyone know if there is a board or place for people interested in purchasing?

Autodesk doesn't allow it in US but in Europe the law says you can't do that. So if you're located in Europe and can find someone willing to sell you're in luck.

I would imagine if such a board exists it's just full of people who want to buy and no one else.

I still haven't been able to find a copy. We switched to Maya at work, which has been pretty tough. Frankly, I'm stunned it's as bad as it is, but all the other animation software options seemed even worse. *sigh* I miss XSI so bad :(

1:10 bug fix ratio inactive vs active customers L-)

So bug fixes for past versions are being phased out just like the whole concept of "past versions" itself is. This makes sense if the software in a more or less healthy state like Photoshop. For Max/Maya however...

Is there anyone getting rid of a license of softimage XSI 2015? I am currently licensed in 7, but my dongle... I worry, is failing occasionally. If it were possible to buy it off someone (and if it would work of course) I would be interested. Located in Canada. Not sure if there is anything I can do.

You - might - get a SI license when starting a Maya or Max subscription, if you're still lucky enough to get one from AD somehow.

Reselling of a software license is tricky at best with all the EULA's, local laws and such. I can recall a lengthy trial in the EU court about this, as some of the US rules regarding ownership of software don't apply in the EU.
And I think most of us will hold on to SI as long as possible ;)

I wish some companies would sell used Softimage license. I would trade my Modo for it easily. :P
