Merry Christmas from owei and si-community..!
Hello there!
This is Oliver, founder and owner of this little site. In the name of the hole team around the si-community, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and lucky new year 2015!
2014 was a tough one for us. The owner of our beloved SOFTIMAGE|XSI killed our our favorite 3D application. Still, to me a decision that makes me quite angry and desperate. XSI always gave me the opportunity to work in the 3D business without cursing about the 3D application. I guess that will change, as we all are forced to switch to another package, sooner or later. A hard way ahead, as there seems to be no real alternative to the power XSI gives you today. Well, some say, a certain package will get better and better, but, honestly, what did they do all those years? They all "found" their niche. There is no need for "them" to produce another swiss knife like XSI. I think, most likely, a "real" alternative won´t be there in the next couple of years.
I watch the DCC market with great concern. Innovation does not take place anymore. All the big packages are owned by one monopolist, that does not really care about users, workflow, cool 3D stuff and new innovative features. And one of these package starved an pitiful death.
Our little community is still healthy and I hope, this will be the case for quite some time. There are no plans to close this site. Though, some more donations would be fine ;)
2015 is ahead. Changes will take place. Let´s hope, as we have nothing much to loose anymore software-wise. Thanks and take care!!
Cheers,
Oliver Weingarten
