Damn!! I would love to see this video. Louis Marcoux seems like a great guy and he knows 3ds Max a lot.

3ds Max PFlow + Softimage ICE + PhoenixFD + TP is kicking ass. Best simulation/particle setup within the Autodesk products. IMO of course.

-- EDIT --

I've been searching the web, but haven't found out any information about this event. I would like to see it.

It's on ...

Getting home I'll watch it. From a person commenting on Youtube, PFlow is getting better. Let's see!

Moderator edit: fixed the embedded video.
The youtube tag only takes the ID, not the url -HB

-- EDIT --

First, thanks for the edit HB! I knew I did something wrong. L-)

As for the presentation ... man, don't know about you guys, but ICE was killer. I usually like Louis presentations with PFlow, but ICE is so badass. I keep imagining if it existed Krakatoa and FumeFX for ICE (actually, more Krakatoa than Fume. Maybe TP.). It would be killer ... but it's already killer.

I really enjoyed the way ICE was presented. Now I feel more comfortable in playing with it. I guess I can even replay the PFlow example in ICE (will try that tomorrow).

The maya part was prety nice to know. It has some cool stuff.
The max part was...skipped...
The SI part was very interesting, importantly clear and funny as well. Good job.

Don't skip the Max part. Louis Marcoux is a nice guy and he knows PFlow really well. The presentation was okay. The only down part was that he had to use FumeFX (not standard with Max) as fire with PFlow is really hard to get.

I actually like the structured view of the Particle System in Max. I think it's really easy to get stuff developed and organized there.

As for the nParticles ... also being nodal, it should have been demonstrated something like that. Creating connections, etc. It worked more as menu selection and clicking.

I guess today, if I had to choose between the 3ds Max + Softimage suite and the Maya + Softimage suite, I would be in doubt.

You're welcome. ;)
Three small things about my edit.
  • If an embedded video doesn't work, at least additionally edit the actual URL into your post, so the users still have something to look at
  • "Everything" you need to know about embedding can be found in this thread
  • If you hover over the tag name in the editor you'll get a hint as well as to its syntax.
Stay safe, sane & healthy!

Well yeah pflow IS indeed nice, I dont object. Is just that there is no way for life I would use Max again :P but I will use Maya for sure. But yeah I might as well watch the max part for educational purposes.

Didn't know you were a ex-Max user! PFlow is good to know because it's very robust and I think it's the only thing that matters in 3ds Max nowadays.

But after seeing the ICE video (I don't know nothing about ICE), I'm confident I can create everything PFlow do. It's exciting. :D

So does Mark Schoennagel actually have something new to say or is this just more or less the same old presentation he's been doing for years?

I didn't watch all of the Softimage presentation (it's realllly long) but it seems pretty good. Great webinar, it's just too sad that really hardly anyone (including myself) watches long videos online, imho. Also there is no way I'd know about this video if it hadn't been published here. I'm fairly impressed by pflow, so few nodes required to express the simulation. It's another approach to node-based UI, one I haven't seen anywhere else. There is a bigger chance I'd be able to do something impressive in a reasonable time with pflow than ICE, imho. workflow does seem to get uglier when you throw in fumefx, imho.

Well, I watched twice the full presentation, but I may have a problem! :D

PFlow is great. I find it very easy to set-up and Louis Marcoux knows his stuff very well. I love his presentations and he uploads some great videos of destruction with PFlow at his blog. As for FumeFX, lately I've found that PhoenixFD create better fire and smoke than FumeFX. I guess the main advantage of FumeFX is that you can buy it bundled with ThinkingParticles with a nice $300 discount.

For the marketing ... yeah! If Bullit didn't post it here, I wouldn't even know it existed and I follow Autodesk/Autodesk Max/Autodesk Maya and Autodesk Softimage on facebook.

If you have the patience ... but his presentation by Louis at IBC was really cool. If I were shopping today a software, this video would make me buy the 3ds Max suite. I just feel sorry he has to speak so fast, as he only has one hour! :D

I just hate I can't download this video and I have to stream everytime I need to see some tips on it. Dammed ooyala player/system.
