A good monitor to buy?

Post by Kerro Perro » 11 Sep 2012, 12:56

Hi guys,

I just had one of my monitors crap out on me last week (am using an old philips monitor at 1024*786 now - seems so small these days!) and want to buy a new one.

I would like to have a nice affordable monitor that has reliable colors - i have a spyder but i would be nice if the monitor is nice and "average" i.e. no crazy fancy colour gamuts but not utter crap either ;)

I googled on it but i get a lot of results with very expensive uberfancy monitors and just want a reliable one for about €200,- to €250,-

Any suggestions?

A couple of months ago I bought myself two of these (Fujitsu P23T-6 IP) and I haven't really looked back (pun intended). At 281,30€ (incl. BTW, excl. shipping) slightly over your budget (and mine, frankly), but it got some decent reviews (like this quite thorough one) and it is definitively worth it (at least for my kind of usage).
Stay safe, sane & healthy!

That looks pretty good - as far as i can tell, i really have no idea what to look for numbers wise - all i can say is it's nice and big! ;)

Delivery costs are good (€9,90) so unless someone starts yelling "nooo don't buy it" i will go for it!

Edit: ah just saw your review link, i skimmed it and the part on color management looked very good!

before you do, double check the return policy for dead pixels.

Hmm all i can see is just a generic "3 years warranty" - is dead pixels not always included in monitor warranties?

I've been tempted by the Dell U2412M recently - decent panel, my favourite res - 1920 x 1200 (those extra 120 verical pixels make all the difference!), not sure about how the colour management options stack up but could be worth a look.

I have it. Pretty good deal (eIPS, pivot, 16:10) for that money (250euro). Quality is on par to 30" hp IPS thats standing next to dell.

Hmm of course Fujitsu is not on the list... Dell doesn't seem too hot either...

The Dell U2412M seems good except all the stores i can order from are out of stock and for some reason direct from Dell it's € 367,71!!! (here)

Also according to this review the colors aren't great out of the box but can be calibrated correctly... Still it's a moot point for me if i can only get it at Dell's high price...

I use Eizo monitors (have owned 3) and have been really happy with them. Excellent build quality, terrific color, and very highly rated online(for whatever that's worth). Unfortunately they do cost a bit (and it looks like they might be out of your range) but color accuracy is priceless and so are your eyes.

Just got the Fujitsu today, definitely needed calibration, after a few tries i have it nicely in line with my other monitors and my Cintiq (had to set it to "D-Mode" after calibration to get the white point right)

Other than that nice monitor for the price, just one question @ Hirazi: what are the usb-ports for? There is nothing in the manual about them... (they don't seem to be in a handy enough place to just be regular extensions)
