From RS to Nuke

Post by Pancho » 24 Sep 2014, 22:51

I just installed Nuke and am definitely new to it. But could anybody tip me of in the right direction which demonstrates how to get all the channels from RS to Nuke?

So, how would I set up my scene in XSI to get the maximum control and that in the end the beauty pass will look like all single channels combined? Which file format would I use? Can I export all the channels in one file so that the HDD doesn’t get that messy? In PS so far I failed to achieve the same result (beauty vs layers) and I definitely want to go the 32bit way.

Any screen shots would help a lot!!!

Cheers
Thomas

Set up your passes, set output to .exr and add the OAV's you want to output.

In Nuke, load the .exr and start splitting up the channels to their separate parts. After that it's a matter of adding all channels together. Keep in mind AO is one of the few that gets multiplied.

I recommend going through some tuts on 3d rendering and Nuke. Digital Tutors has some that are actually palatable ;-)

edit: Simple Nuke tut in 2 videos that covers most of your questions (I think...)

So long, and thanks for all the Fish!!
