PTEX from Mudbox to softimage - UV's work no textures

Post by Filmguy » 13 Sep 2013, 11:29

Hi Guys. I've been playing with Mudbox's ptex painting and glad to see that it creates UV's when bringing the obj back into softimage. The only problem is the .ptex file format it uses for the texture maps. How would one import a .ptex image into softimage. The send to softimage ignores all the maps so I'm importing manually.

Thanks

softimage can't use ptex yet, so you'll need to export the textures in another format from mudbox first.

O cool thanks. I think that's the other issue:) How do you switch to a different file format? If I export from paint layers window it only allows me to export in .ptex

I had a model someone gave me that was textured in Mudbox using PTEX. I had to export the model and then assign it UV's in Softimage. I brought it back into Mudbox and then used the Transfer Maps to bake the texture data into the model assigned the UV's from the PTEX model. Good luck.

Either that or render in VRay which has A PTEX material.

I use Softimage for game development. Is there really anything else?
